Do you cook your bacon before adding them to your beans or do you add the bacon raw?

When doing beans I like to boil a picnic ham until it is easily pulled if you will. Then I use the broth I just made from the boiling as the liquid for the beans.

I always add it raw.

Sometimes I do sometimes I don't. I find both to produce an acceptable pot of beans.

I use ham hocks or bones in a pot of beans. Both Are already cooked.

usually add bacon in raw when the pot is started.

When I am cooking to take to deer camp (wife doesn't care for these), I add raw bacon, cooked crumbled hot breakfast sausage, a whole onion chopped, couple of minced garlic cloves, couple of minced jalapenos, black pepper and about 1/2 can of beer. Then let it cook down to where it's pretty thick. If I have a ham bone, I'll toss that in too. Meal in a bowl and great with either white bread or cornbread.

You can say what you like about refried beans but a can a can in a four quart pot will thicken up the pot liker just right to eat with a fork . Links work fine. Please pass the cornbread.

I always fry my bacon crispy before going in the bean pot (it softens back up some). I don't like chewy/raw bacon.

So I bought salt cured pork (raw). I was thinking about throwing it in with two cans of bush’s Baked beans in the smoker. I assume I can put it all in with the raw pork, right?

I’m my bean pan. I cook the bacon, add onion, and garlic. After it’s cooked down, I add beans and broth/water.

whip

I hate cremated bacon...chewy is the only way to go. We always chop up our bacon and lightly brown in then add the beans and other ingredients...similar to the cabbage here, just lightly browned before adding everything else. It doesn't always fully cook if you put it in raw and that can be a bad deal...

If going in beans it softens back up. Doesn’t stay crunchy like eating it from a pan.

Dat's right.

I put different types of meat in my barracho beans depending (smoked ham hocks/smoked sausage/tasso/venison/brisket/country style ribs etc) but always gets crispy bacon. food

Add raw thick cut slices and let it grease up the water before adding beans.
