I dont know where to start.. yes I got to go deer hunting and spend time in the woods but this season was not good... Deer sighting were very low, this past friday i shot a buck,,,(big 10) and only found 3 very small drops of blood and looked for a day and never found him or any other sign, (hopefully he is alive)... my son finally decides he is ready to shoot his first deer and for a day and a half we see NOTHING.... just disappointing.... hope yall had a better year...

I had a disappointing season. Never saw a good buck, and very few deer st all on my camera. There's always next year.

Not a bad season, and I saw a lot of deer and some good bucks, just couldn't pass this one up on Saturday the next to the last day.

I would be more kissed about hitting and not killing a deer than the luck of deer sightings and all the other complaints.
Might have been a Godsend that you didn’t see more deer this year confused2

I have not seen a deer since November 23 of this year. My worst year by far in 60 years of hunting.

Finally had a deer in bow range Sunday morning. To bad I only had a rifle. Well at least I got a doe to take home. Just think, all those bucks will be a year older next year.

Shot placement? ammo and bullet used? Sighted in properly and zero'd? If you are using an adequate caliber and bullet, good shot placement should anchor the deer. I understand the frustration of losing a deer. I've helped several hunters on our place that had these issues. Both guys (who are no longer on our place) couldn't shoot straight at all. If they hit the large target board they thought they were sighted in properly.

That's unfortunate, sorry to hear that. Not finding a wounded deer is a horrible feeling. Hope next year is better.

Early in the season, the hunting was great. I saw a lot of nice bucks, but was only hunting doe for the freezer. About midway in the season, the deer mostly disappeared. Truth is though that I wasn’t hunting hard, and if I had I might have seen more bucks. I mentioned that the grandson came to visit just before Christmas, went to a stand in the morning, and a nice 7 point came from 300 yards away to 30 yards. Just lucky and always has been. What he doesn’t know is that I could have shot that same buck about 5 times, but don’t need the horns and didn’t want that meat.

Wasn’t the best season here, but it was Ok.

While I can't complain about the number of deer I saw, most of the mature bucks seen through the summer and early fall disappeared once again by mid Oct. Hoping they make their way back over the next 10 months. It never fails, every year we feed year round, see 5-10 shooters (day and night pics) just to have most of them disappear on us. I just hope the neighbors have had some success.

Could have been worse such as losing roughly 300 deer to anthrax like my buddy did on their lease near Bracketteville which only a few mature bucks survived.

I ran into this this weekend. My dad said 'Since you were here Thanksgiving and saw all those deer, we haven't seen any bucks'.

So I asked him, have you been hunting? 'About twice'. In 5 weeks. Yes, no wonder you didn't see any bucks (cataracts aren't helping either). Granted, he's at the place every day feeding stock and such, but if you're not seriously looking you may not see them.

Talked to the neighbor Saturday morning after my hunt, he hunts within a mile of my stand. I'd just seen 14 different deer, 4 does, 4 fawns, and 6 bucks in ~ 2 hours. 'Man, they've gone nocturnal on us. Ate the corn we put out last night but only saw one deer this morning'. This guy has better cover than we do. Maybe quit sitting on your feeder? So for good measure, I saw 15 more Sunday morning from a different stand, including three bucks at least 4.5 yrs old.

I don't understand the acorns=poor season. Go find the deer, they don't magically teleport away from October to February.

Anthrax took our herd back in late June/early July so our hunting was as expected (0 zero taken on 3000+ acres)

On the bright side we've got at least 3 dozen deer staying on or near the property as of a few weeks ago.

My buddies place was given 30 cull tags for their 5,000 acres, somehow the real wild horned culls survived.

This is my first year to have a lease (Brown County) and I've been really disappointed. This discussion is helpful as I try to decide if I want to stay at this lease or look for another. The property itself is ok...not ideal cover. However, it meets all of my major requirements: fair price, family friendly, within 3-hours of Dallas, good fellas on the property, camping options etc. But like you're saying, we haven't seen any deer. The camera has shown a few coming by at sunset a couple times per week, but nothing consistent. I fear we will end the season empty handed.

I had it in my head that we needed to find a new lease...this thread is now making me consider waiting it out another year.

If you don't have any cover and they won't come to the feeder, you'll need to balance that against the positives you listed, but imo I'd be shopping.

Sometimes patience is the best move you can make instead of searching for another lease.
When we first got on our lease we didn't see a buck of any kind until halfway through the month of November, and then when we did they were small young bucks, and we where having a hard time seeing deer even with cameras out.
The hunters before us had shot out the deer, and now that we've been on this property for the last ten years you can see the results at the top few posts on this thread.
Sometimes the greener pastures are right where you are, and you just have to make the best of it.

Thanks for the kinds words.. Other folks on this thread just seem to want to throw in their rude 2 cents.. Yes my gun is sighted in, I can shoot tight groups out to 200 yards with no problems.. always have.. and not seeing more deer because someones opinion that i cant shoot... Thats why i dont post more stuff.. rude comments... If i couldn't shoot good or was new to hunting or whatever then i would maybe agree.. but not the case.. this is the first deer that i have had this happen to or couldnt find in over 20 years..
