I made a donation to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and they sent me a Browning fixed blade as a token of appreciation. I was getting ready to sharpen it and noticed that in the directions that came with the knife showed it being sharpened at a 20 degree angle. I normally work my hunting knives at a 25 degree angle and my kitchen knives at 20. Any comments or observations? Have I been using the wrong angle on my hunting knives all these years?

Thanks for the article. It pretty much confirms what I know about sharpening angles on knives, according to their intended use. The little knife RMEF sent me is probably best reserved for skinning and a 20 degree angle should hold up well enough. I'll let my 25 degree knives continue to do the heavy lifting.

Here's a picture of the RMEF knife.

Thanks for the information, just didn't realize the importance of which angle to use for which knife.
