Got a new Green Mountain Daniel Boone pellet smoker for my Xmas present to me. I've never cooked on a pellet grill before. I was thinking about doing a pork butt first. It's the easiest, I think. It doesn't take too long and my kids and I all enjoy pulled pork. Any suggestions/tips?

Love pulled pork. The shoulder blade will tell you when it's ready. Pulls right. Saint Louis also go well on there. These pictures are from 407.

Hey Bill, if I could get to 80% of how good 407 is, I'd be a happy camper.

Pork butt at 225 degrees until it falls apart...
Or a whole pig skin on for 24-30 hours at 225 degrees

Pork butt. You can't do it wrong. Just be sure to overcook it so it will fall apart, then mask with a sauce.

Why not just cook it low and slow like I cook pigs and krmitchell smoked his turkey posted here. 225 degrees until its fall apart tinder.... Sauce is used to mask poorly cooked food...just cook it right in the first place...

Rub the outside with salt and pepper only. Slow smoke until fall apart tender. Once shredded, sprinkle your rub on it. (yea, I know, it sounds backwards, but it's not). Also, I do 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup of brown sugar dissolved in it. Pour over the meat. Don't over do it. If it is a small shoulder, use less of the vinegar/sugar mixture.

I like sauce on well cooked bbq, it is a compliment. But sure good sauce can go a long way to save carp bbq.
