Not in a stand but I spent a couple hours glassing and stalking on public land on Lake Merideth. Saw a couple mulies but only whitetails are legal now. Season closes at sunset tomorrow.

Way to go, meat in the freezer

Saw a couple of coyotes but didn’t have a safe shot. My son is in a varmint contest this coming weekend so he will get them.

I watched this guy for a looong time. I think he was "my boy's" askari back in the summer.
Maybe tomorrow night?? I've shot bigger, but never on any dirt that I owned.

This is the day that the Lord hath made. Crystal clear and quiet. Well, except for when I took my cap off to get in the blind and I forgot I had a headlamp on and it went "BANG" on the expanded metal porch.

Lots of shots here. Way more than opening morning. I've got a mature 9ish cull, but I know I'll be bummed and will just be work if I shoot him. I know culling for "genetics" doesn't work (quickly), but a mouth off the place is a mouth off the place. He's definitely the (insert word for large male rooster that won't get by the filter here)-of-the-walk here this morning so far.

Well, the rest of the day I'm officially in the "A bird in the hand..." scenario. But I could use 4 doe tags for our late season "quota" we've set. Still, a gorgeous day. I believe a morning cigar is in order here shortly. All animals have exited stage left.

Last one just left here too Windy and they were spooky no doe this morning. Hopefully I can make one more trip

Childress County, all the deer have went underground in the past week or so. But it's been a great year, I got a buck I'm happy with opening day, son got a nice 10 the next week, and wife out did both of us the week of Thanksgiving with her first buck. Hoping a few younger deer we have seen make it til next year. Was hoping for a pig or turkey this weekend. Turkey came my way this morning but turned. I've got the smoke pole in the blind and it was just a touch to far. Only thing I could think to do was pull up a turkey call on YouTube to see if I could bring them back, I might as well played a screaming wildcat, didn't know turkey could fly that fast and far. Hoping y'all get what you want by seasons end, I know I did, quiet time in God's creation, family time, and time to reflect on years past.

Well that sucked. For the first time in many years, I stayed 'til last legal shooting light. No shooter bucks. 23-25 does and yearlings at the end though. I'd corned the road to boot. Then, at dark, a pig came out at about 40 yds. . He saw the light on my stainless barrel and I pulled the trigger with the safety on! Maybe I shouldn't have had that wine with lunch.

4 doe tags it is.
