How’s the deer activity looking in burnet county?

I live in Victoria and deer are still rutting and chasing here.

I got drawn for gun deer hunt at Inks Laks SP in 2 weeks. I’ve never hunted this county before so I’m just trying to get some in site on the area!

Thanks Y’all! cowboy

There are many in that park and they are not afraid of people so bring plenty of cooler storage you will have venison when you leave.

I have found that some of the fawns born in May and later could be coming in season...so possibly the rut runs on and the grunt call could be helpful. Still scents are useful. It's not unusual for some ruts will continue through Jan.
Good luck on your hunt....you can't loose..win win situation..hunting in new place with tame deer.

Yeah I figured it’d be similar to the neighborhoods around the lake. I believe I can bring corn as well so I’m bringing the big cooler if and if I don’t tag out on deer maybe I can toss some fish in it.

is your draw hunt for either sex since regular rifle season ended yesterday? or doe/spike only?

Most of Inks Lake SP is surrounded by the Reid ranch, which is very lightly hunted (or used to be) and there could be literally hundreds of deer that would come thru the park a couple of times a day for food & water from the lake. I have personally seen some really good bucks in the SP and the Reid ranch over the past 50+ years.

It’s either sex limit one fork antlered buck. So if a good buck walks out I’m good to go.

Hoping to fill the cooler at least

doesn't that imply that it is the same as the extended season, does and unbranched 1 side antler buck ... not a double side branched buck??? I would be sure to get clarification.

If you get an option on where in the park to hunt, I would opt towards the fartherest north end up close to where Spring Creek comes in or as close to the old golf course as you can get.

Hunters can shoot a fork antlered buck And then the other deer can be a doe/spike or you can shoot two does or 2 spikes

They are using TPWD tags instead of your own so it’s kind of like MLD.

Thanks for the tip on location!

ah ha, gotcha! Good luck with your hunt! There is a mesquite flat immediately east of the old golf course that the deer used to travel thru from Ms. Reids house pasture (no hunting allowed) that held some bruisers for that area. When the golf course was open, sometimes you would have to play around the deer there were so many out eating on the fairways and shrubbery.
