Kids are off visiting grandparents and I’m out of buck tags so I’m taking a buddy out this morning to see if he can get a deer.
I hunt a place that is 8-10 miles as the crow flies so I can sort of use the conditions around my house as a barometer on what is going on at the lease.
Went out to crank my truck, walk across the start and start stepping on acorns. Pick up about a half dozen, crack them open....all pretty yellow with no signs of rot.
We just couldn’t catch a break with the mast crop this season!
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

So you are hunting out of your truck sitting in your drive way?  What does acorns in your yard where there are no deer, hogs, turkeys, rabbits, raccoons...etc to eat them as fast they drop have to do with hunting 10 miles away at your lease?

So you are hunting out of your truck sitting in your drive way? What does acorns in your yard where there are no deer, hogs, turkeys, rabbits, raccoons...etc to eat them as fast they drop have to do with hunting 10 miles away at your lease? Actually, I do have deer in the yard, and quite a bit of raccoons. Deer normally show up around 2-3 am and head out around 6. I’m in the blind now, only a handful of doe moving and they didn’t hang out long

Maybe you should have hunted from the truck while it was parked in the driveway.... Hell everyone else is doing it. Should have hunted the pasture across the road from my entrance apparently the people poaching it have been doing pretty good
