Did a Spot-N-Stalk Tuesday afternoon in the Sabine river bottom area, and came across a 200 lb plus hog. Previously, the owner had killed a 270 lb hog. At 50 yards the hog was not moving so I thought it was the one previously shot and dragged off; Tail was stiff, ears still, and no signs of breathing. At 40 yards still nothing. At 30 yards, I decided to ready my rifle. As soon as the safety came off, that Hog came alive and darted into the thicket. That rascal was gone in a flash!
Laying flat on the ground, it was at least 2.5' tall at the shoulders and 6' Long body. One of the biggest I've seen there. Lesson learned...next time I'll place a shot to be sure it's dead. Luckily, it ran into the thicket. If it charged, not sure I could have gotten off a shot quick enough. I didn't score, but still made for an exciting hunt!!!!

Not much more exciting than sneaking up on a group of hogs in the dark. When that shot goes off and hades breaks loose. Pure adrenaline.

Would have been a very short wild ride!
