Checking in from southern live oak county. First hunt since thanksgiving.

Question? What times are y’all seeing deer right now? My area they were showing right after sunrise and beget sunset, last couple weeks they show after dark and before sun comes up. I have one more tag to fill my freezer and I need advice. This is my first year hunting deer as I am retired from the Army. I filled my two does and one buck from a different county.

I was covered with deer 30 minutes before daylight until I got out of the blind. This time of year in south texas, it’s not hard to find them.

A few miles east of you they were moving till around 0945 this morning and they started moving again around 215.
Lots of movement since this last hard freeze burnt the brush.

Not the deer I have been looking for but still a mature deer. I don’t ever remember shooting a deer on the last day of the year so I will remember this one. Tough season but I always believe if you put the time in it will work out in the end!

Nice deer, big 8. I've switched stands and hunting about 3/4 of a mile from where I usually hunt. A doe and a nubber are under the feeder, unbelievably.

2 more doe arrived. Most deer I've seen at one time all season.

Got in the blind Wednesday afternoon, I’ll be here until Friday night, this will be it for me.

Here. In the old blind that was left here and I cleaned up. Narrow view/shooting lane. 'Feels like east Texas with no pines, just cedar, mesquite, and live oak.

I’m in Wood County now. Another slow slow day. I have not seen a buck in daylight this season. Guess that’s east Texas for ya.

As you can see, ain't no deer. Feeder went off 15 minutes ago. I'm used to deer INSTANTLY!
Seriously, there's something hinky about this place. Decent number of deer on camera, but not so much when I'm here. And I shower daily. 'Faces east (feeder is where previous hunters had one.) I don't know if it's the narrow opening, it being all in shadow, where it is on the ranch, or some combination of above. This is the (edge) of the hill country. I'm used to a doe watching you fill the feeder.

I don't think this spot is a keeper.

Looks like the same place I'm hunting now. Very similar except this a high frequency area for deer and hogs. Keep at it.

Doe and nubber just walked out. She keeps staring back in the brush......

I think the previous owner might have built this blind. And I'm pretty sure a couple of days ago that I found where they spread his ashes.

But...maybe there's bad juju in this blind. Still not an animal one. Second sit this has happened. Did see stuff earlier in the season though, at the height of fresh acorns on the ground.

Wonder what it'd be like to put a blind and feeder where they spread his ashes.

3 hours until I take my father on his last hunting trip of the season. I was able to get a few does and a buck down south, maybe I can get one with my dad this year.
