Georgia State Senator Donzella James, (D-Atlanta), has pre-filed legislation that would ban the possession of semi-automatic firearms. The prohibitions in Senate Bill 281 would even ban common semi-automatic shotguns used for bird hunting and trap shooting. Any person convicted under this new law “shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of 5 years.” SB 281 has yet to be assigned to a committee.
Legislation like SB 281 continues to be introduced across the nation, and many legislators jump at the chance to be at the forefront of gun-control efforts. Passage of SB 281 will do nothing to curb gun violence committed by criminals, but instead punishes law-abiding citizens.

I love it. Won't enforce the current gun laws on the books but they will throw someone in jail for 5 years if this passes. Maybe they should start handing out mandatory minimum sentences for gun crimes instead of making new laws. I bet things would change if they did that.
