Going to law school, he hasn’t had a chance to hunt even once this year. Went out this morning and killed the buck I call “wide 8”. It happens that way every year. Luckiest dang kid.

Skinned and deboned it himself. All I had to do was watch. Only grandkid that hunts, which makes him rather special.

The buck had more body fat than I expected this late in the rut.

Yep, it’s a Ruger International, tang safety type. His Uncle gave it to him some years ago. I worked up some mid-power 308 loads for it, with IMR3031 and 150 gr SST bullets, and it shoots really well, and way better than I expected a full stocked rifle to shoot. The scope is a Burris FFII 4.5-14. It kicks pretty hard, being so light.

His rifle might be the only International model I’ve ever seen or handled. I guess they aren’t common.

The blue tape on the forward bell of the scope has the trajectory dope on it. All the rifles but the 220 Swift have the blue tape. The Swift shoot so flat that I just hold over out 300 or a bit more.
