Looking at range finders in the $300 and less range. I'm pretty well decided on the Sig Kilo 1600 range finder without BDX (because I'm not buying a Sig scope). Says deer to 800 and trees to 1000 yards. I assume it won't go that far but that if it will range trees to even close to that i'd say that is sufficient. Is there a better range finder for the price?

You are asking the right questions. No point in having a RF that will range a tree at 1000 yards if it won’t range a deer or coyote at anything close to that distance. I bought a Sig 1250 and tried it out, but it wasn’t up to what I needed. Sent it back and got a Leica 2000B, and that is one first class RF. I’ve ranged deer to, I think, about 900 yards. I’d try at a greater distance if I could find a deer further away.

The 1600 is not a bad scope but jumping up to at least the 1800, if you can swing it, gives you the Spectra Coated anti-reflective lens which is better than what's on the 1600. Otherwise its virtually the same rangefinder. If you jump up to the 2200 you get better magnification and a larger objective thus a larger field of view. You also jump up in price above your $300 price point. That being said, I have a "like new" Sig Kilo 2200 LRH (not the BDX model) that I have used exactly 6 days hunting over the past 2 years. Basically brand new with box and manuals. It's stated range is deer out to 1300 and trees to 1600yds. I personally have ranged an elk at 1,000 yds but nothing further. It's a great rangefinder. I upgraded last year to the 2400ABS as I wanted to use it for long range shooting and wanted the integrated ballistics calculator in it. Anything Sig and you'll be making a good choice. Stay away from Leupold. I have had two now and they both crapped out on me (virtual displays went out on them). Fortunately Leupold has a good warranty/customer service but I jumped shipped to Sig after that and have had zero issues with them. I have been hanging on to the Sig 2200 thinking my 16 yo can use it once he is out of the house and on his own but that may be wishful thinking. If it interests you at all, let me know. I'll sell it to you for $300 shipped and insured to your door. If not, no worries, but any of the Sigs are great rangefinders. I wouldn't however recommend stepping down below the 1600. Obviously the more it costs the more bells and whistles it has on it, however you may not need or want all of those things.

I've got the Sig 2200 BDX. It runs circles around the Geovid 2200 (403) RF I had.

Just went through replacing my Bushnell Scout 1000. Fell while wading a river and the Scout got immersed I. Water for area minutes. Called Bushnell to see what they could do for me. Tech Rep said they would know there is a water issue if I sent it in. Best they-could do is a reduced price on a new one. I’ve already seen them on sale or less than Bushnell offered. Called Vortex to see if I would’ve been covered under their warranty. They assured me send it in and I will either get it fixed or a new one. They offer a discount program for military, veterans and law encorcement which got the Ranger 1800 down to your price range. Case closed no other company offers that warranty on electronics

The last remaining Vortex product I own is a cap that I won’t wear. They have a great warranty and I’ve had to use it more than once.

I have a 2200BDX and I would say it’s pretty average.

I have the Kilo 2xxx something and can't say anything bad about it. No fancy reticles or Bluetooth syncing, but as a recreational long distance shooter it has far exceeded my needs and expectations. I've ranged vehicles parked across the lake at over 2,400 yards.

Wife gave me a Sig 1600 BDX so guess my search is done. Thanks guys
