My vision has deteriorated as I age. I put a Leupold FX-2 on a 336 35 Remington and it is great. Now I’m considering a scope on my 1894 45 Colt. What’s on the market that is smaller than the FX-2 and of good optical quality. Obviously I’ll not be dialing a 45 Colt but if I’m going to scope it I want to get all the advantages of low light use. It doesn’t have to be a fixed power I’m very open to a 1-4 or 2-7. I just want small.

I think your best shot is the Leupold FX II 2.5x20mm. Everything else is large enough that it ruins the balance of a good lever gun.

I went ahead and put the horse before the cart and ordered the Talley LW lows plus a spur for the hammer. Looks like the 2.5x20 can be had for $269 so I’ll get it on the way. Now I actually can tune a load since I can see what I’m doing. It will be used for walking plus two different feeders at 50 yards or less.

I have 2-7X32 scopes on my levers that are scoped, that size scope seems a good compromise to me, small light weight and gets me with my old eyes able to see hogs at 50 yards on a full moon night without lights or shoot at start or end of legal shooting time. THe last Lupy 1.5-4X20 did not quite get me there. Hope your new scope does all you want to do and then some.

Kmon1 that’s what I’m worried about but the scope syncerus suggested best fits my goals. I did some research and the FX-2 is the best glass I can get in that size at any reasonable price. Minox has a very nice discontinued one but it comes in at $1200 which is a good ways outside of my price range for a lever 45 Colt. I can suck it up and get the bigger objective FX-2 and have everything but the low profile I want for the 1894. If I had a back up plan for the Minox I might be more inclined to try it.

It is a very nice scope although slightly bigger.

I put a Leupold on my .45 Colt. Good eye relief, didn't need to add a hammer spur, either.
