Popping these two yesterday made up for a one duck morning. Was driving around the property I hunt at and saw a few dozen Sandhills in one of the bare fields. They were next to a canal so I parked my truck and spent the next hour making my way through the canal and crawling on my stomach through fields. When I got to my closest point to the group I realized they were ~60 yards away and probably too far to shoot. As I was thinking on what to do a big group started circling the group in the field and passed about 20 yards over me. 2 shots later I had 2 cranes in the bag.

That's awesome. They are the best eating waterfowl by far.

They are migratory, but not considered waterfowl. You can use lead shot if strictly hunting Sandhill Cranes.

Got another limit today. Used 7 repurposed Canada goose decoys that were spray painted flat gray and then a little red spot on top. Good decision to Target these and not ducks; only heard about groups of shots all morning.
