As winter approaches, the large groups seem to disappear on my property. Haven't been able to figure out why either. Still getting activity from lone boars, but sounder activity on the game cams has almost been non-existent since early November. This happened last year as well.
I did spot a sounder recently off in the distance. They came from an area that has a feeder and passed by another area with a fenced in feeder that still sprays some corn outside the fence. Plenty of corn on the ground that they just passed right on by. My guess is it's related to acorns along with the 7 acres of fresh oats sprouting I have planted throughout the property. My bet is they prefer natural forage. I had one feeder on the south part of my property that had a huge pile of corn. Spread out some Hog Wild thinking the pigs would take care of it... no luck... drew in a bunch of deer instead
I've also think it may be related to bigger boars and also related to hunting pressure. There are a few other hunters in my area that I imagine are popping the pigs too.
I'm still having success each trip taking a boar. Seems like every time I take one... another shows up for the next few weeks until I get out there and take that one. Seems to be a never-ending supply of lone boars.
