I stopped by Goodwill today to drop off some hoodies and sweats. The clerk acted as if he had died and gone to Heaven. He said that they were well needed with the cooler weather. I plan to glean some more closets and make another drop off on my next outing. Thought I would spread the word for them. No idea how they work.

If I outlive my wife, I will donate enough women's clothing to open a dept store. I usually go through my stuff twice a year when I shuffle between warm and cold weather clothing.

I was thinking about what you said, I don't own a Hoodie. The last time I wore anything with a hood was a parka I had in the Navy.

I'm not making this up. I had more than I could carry with two hands. I put it all in the styrofoam cooler that my Omaha steaks came in. He liked the cooler more than the sweats.

probably not in your area but alot of the goodwills have turned into scammers. Some management ,knowingly or unknowingly, allow the good stuff to get taken and be sold online. The good stuff never sees the floor. Ive heard more than a couple stories saying this. IMO, just like anything else , I would try and give it directly to the folks that are going to use it. Again not all areas but it sounds more like this happens more in the big cities.

That is good business practice, getting the max collar out of the donations.

I live out in the country in an upscale area. No way I can find the needy on my own.

Just continue to do what you do. Your actions and efforts are good enough. If others do wrong with their part/responsibility that is on them. I often stop and give 10 or 20 bucks to people standing out begging. I often here, “they are just going to buy drugs or alcohol.” That may be true, but is not on me. I freely give and help when I can. What they do is between them and God. We are not to judge.

Try the fire and/or police departments. They know who the needy are.

My wife loves going to Goodwill. She bought me a Sitka Ascend jacket and Ascend pants there for $5.00 a piece.

We have a local Outreach Center near us.

I donate clothes on a regular basis that I no longer wear.

eek2 Dang! Now you're gonna make me waste a lot of time looking through junk.

I try to make it to Salvation Army to donate stuff. I like them better than Goodwill. They came out Friday and picked up two solid, antique desks that we no longer had a place for, along with a box of clothes.

Good job, Bill. We give several truckloads of stuff a year to Goodwill as well. The tax write-off helps. grin

They always ask me if I want a receipt but I decline because I always take the short form for my tax returns.

We take all of our stuff to the local women's crisis center where it's sold in their store to help fund the center for battered and abused women.
According to web reports the CEO of Goodwill receives a salary of around $700,000 a year while most of those working there are paid less than minimum wage. I have no idea if that's true but it certainly wouldn't surprise me any.

CEO of 105,000 employees and makes $700k. He's awfully generous.

Same here...Genesis Women's Shelter in Dallas has a thrift store and all of the money goes straight to the shelter....we've been doing it for years. Clothes, furniture, just about anything....and the sell a LOT of stuff.

Good will has tons of free probation workers..........not paid.

but same for Salvation army and helping hands.

I don't give any of them squat............same as toys for tots.

Even giving to those pet store boxes where they say your dog food is going to the dog pound............most good stuff goes right back on the rack to sell again.

Give your money to the bum on the street........throw the rest of your stuff in the garbage as you aint helping. I hate all these foundations. God said don't carry his name in vain, and too many do.

Assuming the proceeds go to the needy. I can see employee's paying cheap or stealing and reselling on Ebay.
