Going to be in the DFW area, what's the best bbq joint? I hear good things about 407. I wasn't super impressed with Hard eight in Stephenville last time I ate there.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, how far is 407 from Reunion tower? 'Be up there for DSC.

I posted a thread about Hard Eight in Stephenville a while back. How to take something simple, and make it as complicated as possible. 1st and last time I'll eat there.

Depends on where in the DFW area you're going to be. 407 is great and is kind of northwwest DFW. Pecan Lodge is near east downtown Dallas. Cattleack is in Addison, but not open all week. Heim (I've not been here) is in Fort Worth just south of downtown. I like the ribs at Railhead BBQ (brisket is OK, not great) on the near west side of Forth Worth.

I am willing to drive just about anywhere. Heck we were considering driving down to Austin to try Franklin's. I'm driving from Wyoming, an hour drive for some bbq isn't bad.

It's been years since I've been there, but is the Hickory Stick still open in Everman?

In Ft Worth, 407 and Heim are my favorites. 407 has the best brisket and Turkey, Heim has great ribs and bacon burnt ends. Heim also has outstanding sides, the collard greens and green chili mac and cheese are a good enough reason to go anyway. Go to both, you will be glad you did.

The last time I ate at the Hickory Stick was in 2009, I don't know if they are still going or not.

407, Panther City, Terry Black's, Hutchins, Hurtado, Zavala's. I can recommend more if you'd like. DFW was a wasteland for great BBQ but there are a lot of really good ones these days.

This came in a care package from 407. Pure greatness. I favor pulled pork or ribs. Some of those others are brisket servers only.

Yes Hickory Stick is still there but there is a better place on 1187 in Rendon. Jambo's is excellent Q

If you have time swing up through Muenster, along 82, pick up some sausage at Hess Meats and Fischer's and get some bbq at Dieter Bros. in Lindsay.
It's just a few miles west on 82 at Gainesville.

Far, 42 miles! Just hit Terry Blacks & Pecan Lodge a couple miles away.

My DFW Top 5 from the joints I have tried

1. Cattleack, North Dallas
2. Terry Blacks, Deep Ellum (Downtown Dallas)
3. Zavala's BBQ, Grand Prairie
4. Panther City BBQ, Fort Worth, TX
5. Heim BBQ

If coming from up north, I would personally suggest Zavala's as it's Texas BBQ with a TexMex Flair and who doesn't love BBQ Tacos?
The easiest BBQ to get will be Heim or Terry Blacks as they are pretty much open everyday and open for dinner.

I've started a little BBQ Channel on YouTube. Cattleack, Terry Black's and Zavala's have a review on there if you want to check it out.

True statement. Also, Lockhart BBQ (plano and downtown dallas) is good.

I’ll add one more to that, Slow Bone.

I have not been to every BBQ place mentioned, but I’ve been to plenty. The best, to me, is 407. The food there really was terrific.

I hate runny beans. Does any of them do their own beans? What brand of canned beans?

Bbq is a lot about personal preferences. Flavors, textures, sauce or no sauce. Haven't been to the Dallas ones mentioned here. Most of the ones west are not all that.

Zavala's is the best DFW bbq in my book by a far cry. Great bark. Flavor throughout. Sausage was unique and awesome I hate the fine grind eckrich like sausage. The red pepper flakes made it. Tortillas and green sauce was a hit with me as well

I'd put Flores at a distant second. Pork ribs are probably their best item. Brisket has good flavor

Bbq on the Brazos third. Very consistent. Great bark. Not much flavor in the beef. Turkey is great; not dry. Sides are the best around with potato salad and Cole slaw. Tried to imitate their coleslaw. I'm close
