Just a question, never been a duck or goose hunter, just don’t care for the meat. How old do geese and ducks live so they are leaders for the southern migration ????

My Yote toys,
Ruger 77 22-250
Foxpro 416B & numerous hand calls

not sure but I have a banded wood duck drake that according to the info from the tag was banded 7 years before I got him. Know of one Greater Canada goose that was banded 20 years before it was harvested.

there have been several bands reported that were in the upper 20's and a few low 30's (years ago banded)
not common at all but they can live a long time.

growing up my granddad had 2 pair of mallards that he bought when I was about 2 years old. they lived on a pond that was 20 yards from his house. I hunted that pond well into my 20's and the 2 drakes were still there. Don't hunt there anymore because my grandad passed away and his wife sold the place but those birds were at least 25 years old.
