Since Thanksgiving, we have found some strange killings. We have started finding dead deer with their carcasses staged. The deer, bucks and does, are shot in the head and then dumped all together, usually 3 or 4 at a time. The deer are not processed in any way and the horns are left on the bucks. This is happening in the area of hwy 71 in burnet and Llano counties. It appears they were headshot with a .22. We’ve discovered 4 sites right now. They’ve been found under bridges or beside roads. Local LE and TPWD is aware and investigating.

Some great responses . Could possible some one not liking hunters around so they are killing the game. I am thinking its likely like these guys are saying above. Kids or gardeners. Alot of the good crops are up though at this time of year??? Maybe not even kids could be they are using a 22 because it has less of a report when shot. It would be a good job for game cams

Kids are not going to load up and move dead animals, they may shoot and get the heck out of there, but not likely to stick around.
Anti- hunters would and could do this to keep others from harvesting them, the liberal thought process is that stupid. But..I would think they would put them where they are easily found in the open to make hunters look bad.
Could be a rancher...I know of many in states like Kansas that despise deer and turkey and want everyone of them killed and dumped.

As mentioned this could be someone sick of deer being around. Maybe trapping and then a .22 to the head. Getting within .22 range to 12-16 deer (that they know of) seems tough, maybe neighborhood deer. Then hauling the deer off of the property to get rid of the evidence.

Can you be more specific on location on Hwy 71? I travel Hwy 71 a lot to get feed at Lyssy & Echols in Llano. I don't mind keeping an extra eye out for any unusual activity.

Why so cryptic? Who is "us" and what is the contact information for "us"?

Sounds like a deranged individual whoever it is, and I agree someone out killing just for fun would not bother to pick the animals up and touch them.
It sounds more like someone bent on getting rid of them off THEIR property.
Too many out of staters moving into that area of the hill country.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

My thoughts as well. Someone's mad about deer damage, and taking matters into their own hands.

that was my initial thought as well ... would be easy in Sunrise Beach, Horseshoe Bay, etc. and merely removing to hide the evidence in the neighborhood.

I know a few folks who moved to the country and used to think they were all cute and cuddly and fed them in their yards.
Then they kept coming and multiplying until hey ate all the plants around the house and cleaned out the garden and all of a sudden they weren't so cute and had to go.
The easy answer was yard dog but I'm sure some folks just get rid of them any way they can.

I know we are overrun with does and I have a hard time growing hay with the pests everywhere.
Once the hay gets a couple of feet tall, they are impossible to see and just live in the field except for a trip to water.

Cheers,

Chupacabra. Clear and simple. I see they've graduated from slingshots to rifles. Someone left their rifle in an unlocked pickup and they popped in and took it. Dang chupacabra, no respect for life. Now they've got guns... Be afraid, my friends, be very afraid.

A teenager and some friends thrill killing them on one of their own properties. Can't have daddy finding out so go dump them.

I would of bet it was kids but doubt kids would haul off their kills. You could be right.

Seems a little late for someone to be shooting deer in a garden as my garden froze out back in October. Do deer eat marijuana??? Perhaps someone is protecting their cash crop...
Adios,
Gary
