Talked with the local processor when I dropped off my deer. He said he had a farmer bring in a 244" free range whitetail! That's gotta be some kind of record, correct? Just from a quick Google search I pulled up was back in like 91 of a 190". He said the guy wasn't even hunting he was just out in his field checking on some cows and seen a nice deer and shot. Anybody know anything else or laid eyes on this behemoth?!?

Holy cow! That's a big deer. Probably not a record.
I hope this is legit. Would love to see a picture.

You would think if he took it to the processor. The processor would have a picture of at least the head.

I hit the 24 hour drop off and I just was able to catch him before he left on a run to fort Worth. I brought up another processor had a 170" free range whitetail come in when I was dropping a deer off there and that's when he mentioned the 244"

“Free range” is not 100% free range any longer. I know of multiple ranches who grow their deer for years and release the does and some of the bucks. And it’s legal. The record should have an asterisk behind the record if so.

So now we are so worried about getting record books that we will pen raise a deer and then release it to the wild and shoot it? That’s just sick.

Whats wrong with people?

So no knowledge at all of the deer and this is your response? What a joke

Yes, I have no knowledge of this particular deer at all. All I’m saying is chasing that record book buck as a free range is very likely not a true free range deer any more. A breeding program releasing their deer, IMO, should not be considered “free range”. Hence the asterisk. Kind of like the home run records in the steroid years.

You have no clue about this deer so why do you feel the need to bring that up? Want to go ahead and get your jealously out there for all to see I guess?

High fence, low fence, no fence. I don't care one way or another. I like the fact that penned deer can sometimes escape. Upgrades our herd. Not that that's what happened. Cross timbers area has always had some great genetics if the deer could get some age on them.

Three threads up, "I shot a Monster this weekend" was a 210s whitetail taken in Hood county. May that be the buck?

I wasn't going to post it on that thread, but 99.999% sure that wasn't a LF deer.

There was a non typical killed in Orin not to far from that area a couple of years ago I think that scored in that ballpark. My buddy killed a 171 " out by Boonesville. There are some low fence monsters just far and few between.

It was high fence. Poster has yet to confirm, but has not been back to answer the question. It was noticed that there was a tattoo in the ear, along with a large Ø hole that held the pen raised ID tag.

We are all free to hunt how we want to, as long as we're within the law. It's not for me, and I'm not offended or put off by someone that wants to hunt HF. But I do take issue with someone that posts a picture with a great buck, all camo'd up and tells a hunting story, omitting that it wasn't a fair chase, record qualifying hunt. If you shot it behind a high fence that should be part of the story, unless you're embarrassed or being deceptive by omission.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I love HF deer - it is just a bit harder to haul them up and over to the LF side. flame

And why do you care? If you want to be deer detective to find HF kills then fine, just click the back button after and move on. You just look like a jealous tool as it is.

Trying to recall if I have ever hunted a HF ranch, err . . , um, . .. . no. This sentence stinks of aristocracy, "If you shot it behind a high fence that should be part of the story, unless you're embarrassed or being deceptive by omission." Freakin stinks. Really elitist. it details an attitude where what you know is better than what others do. So good for you.

Personally, I thought the OP's story was a great one. The photos were absolutely awe inspiring. "Whaa, whaa, whaa, you shot it behind a high fence" is, plain & simple, a losers limp.

I have been all over and seen lots of ugly hunting. i really don't need people turning a story like this one into something it isn't.

Because successful hunting is hard, and I respect anyone that puts in the work to do it, including myself. HF hunting is not as hard, IMO. Your personal opinion of me is also your freedom to have. I will not respond publicly again, since I stated my opinion and own it. Anyone that wants to know more about me, or my opinion on the matter is free to PM me.

Yeppers, but your opinion on how hard it is to hunt HF is limited by your experiences or what well may be your misperceptions and that there hunter's rights do not end where your feelings start.

Btw, I have been on large low fence places with lil' in the way of traffic where you can walk right up on deer. A buddy of mine rattled one up and shot it in the open with a stick & string. That 180 looks mighty good on his wall. All fair chase. All low fence with lil' pressure. It is what it is.

In this case, it's an awesome looking deer and I, for one, am happy with what that fella did. I might not have chosen to do it, but am steadfastly happy for him.
