My son and I are heading to Alazan Bayou for an E Postcard duck hunt on the 20th. Those are morning hunts. I thought we would try to hunt squirrels in the afternoon. We were looking at that part of the NF that is just east of Hwy 59 and directly south of Nacogdoches. Is that all flooded ground or is there some bottomland that we can walk on?
Thanks

I had a camp down there on the swamp. Duck and squirrel hunting was great. I’m not sure about the public access from land but you can put in at a ramp and head back towards the lake and bank on the forest land. Our place butted up to the NF. Squirrel hunting was much better if you take a dog, my lab caught on to it pretty quick.Good luck and if you put your boat in take a GPS. It’s easy to get lost down there especially if the water is high.

Would kayaks work? I wasn't sure how hard it would be to paddle back upstream. It's only about a mile from the launch on 59. I have my bass boat but I'm not sure it will launch there. Wish I had my duck boat, that would be perfect.
