What are some good options on windows? I’m going to build a new house and I don’t care to spend the money on Pella or Anderson. There’s got to be a good above average window out there.

Bill, ya gotta do something about that brown spot in the lawn.

Start a new thread about it and I will tell you how those spots help tour yard by composting the thatch.

If you’re a Veteran, Lowe’s and Pella are hard to beat.

Your builder should be able to help you. The biggest cost on replacement windows is removal, clean up, and haul-off of the old windows.

It is my understanding that Burris Window somehow bought out the Vinyl Window business from Certainteed.

I built a home many years ago for an architect that moved to our area. He specified Simonton Windows. I had never heard of them. After looking them up they had won the JD Power award for several years.

On the energy aspect, if you face more east/west then the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient number may be more important than R rating.

You might research those two. In vinyl windows besides quality, energy efficiency, etc. they can look a little different from one brand to another. Some look just right on say a Craftsmen style home, while the same window won't be what you want on a traditional brick home.

And from your OP, I have no idea if Anderson has ripped their loyal dealers or not. But with Pella, there was Pella in the day, and now Pella in the big box stores. And with any of them, there are more grades and decisions than you can imagine to sort out.

Krestmark. I just built a house and this is what I used. A lot of builders use this window. They are located at 3950 Bastille Rd#100. Dallas Tx. 75212, 214-237-5055

Get whatever makes you happy. It might be only a few dollars more, but it will be a few thousand dollars more later.

No kidding. Bugs the heck out of me:.......When I built the ranch house I went to 'Window world' and had them custom made. Probably paid double what I would have just buying from Lowes.
