Need an electric start for 2012 F250. Driving to Cali for a short job and got approval to install one. Anyone have a recommendation as to what type or where to get one? Also can I get one for a diesel? Should I get one for a diesel?
Thanks

Assuming you are talking about a remote start. A good friend of mine has one on an old 7.3 it works so I know they make them I know you can put them on one.

The only kind of start you need with a Ford is a head.

Seriously though, remote start? If so, I'd get Ford's setup.

We used this truck in below -0 degree weather last year and it took forever to warm up. I mean like 30+ minutes. I done getting up extra early when I am out on a job. Plus I had to pre-dress just to go out to start it. Maybe at home that's no biggie, but hotel that sucks. Especially when there is snow and ice everywhere. Where I am going in Lib town its up in the mountains (big bear) and it's in the 20-10 degrees every morning per weather channel. So yes remote start.
This is a basic company truck. So no it did not come with one.

Back in the day, I worked at Circuit City. We installed remote start/alarms on everything you can imagine. Not a big deal...you can probably easily do it yourself. Plenty of good options available on Amazon.

also if it's that cold there, be sure to put anti-gel treatment in your diesel every fill up ...

Diesels don't warm up for carp. Start it let it idle for 5 minutes and start driving it, don't floor board it but working it a little will cut your warm up time WAY down. Cold idle is bad for them.

A diesel won't warm up off remote start unless you have a high idle program. Stock idle RPM is too low to warm it, get a high idle program not remote start if you want it to warm faster.

I don't know about all of them, but my 15 Ram has a feature that if you leave the heat on HI and turn the fan to any setting it will bump up the idle to about 1200 RPM.

How about an electric block heater?

My programmer has a hi idle setting that takes it to 1100 rpm. Makes a big difference getting it to warm up.

At least it started. I was hunting with a buddy when that ice storm hit 6 years ago. It was 18 degrees and his 7.3 wouldn't start. We had to wait a couple hours after the sun came up before it would start.

Car Toys put one on my truck a few years ago, did it in an afternoon, and it has a high idle setting for diesels. Haven't had any problems with it.

You want a block heater and a remote start. Amazon has a good selection in the $150 range that you can self install.
