The alternative to AARP.... If so, what are the benefits of membership...other than your money not going to fund liberal causes which is what the AARP does... Getting to “that” age and wondering if there is any real benefit to joining..

Watching. I was about to post a thread about "old man shoes" that don't make you look 80+ (Plantar Facia issues), but I'll wait to see the response here. I'm in the same boat, mi hermano.

They offer about the same discount rates etc. at hotels and car rentals. Like AARP, they also peddle a lot of insurance programs. I get about 3 emails daily with various offerings.

AMAC has the same type of benefits as AARP. I m a member of both but will not renew my AARP membership due to their support of left wing politicians.

We are members, magazine is pretty decent, 59 years old. I dropped my dental insurance through employer and am picking up their plan - benefits are about the same as employer plan but $600/yr cheaper. I think the other stuff is about the same, as far as discounts for travel, etc. I don't recall for sure, but seems like membership is only $17/yr or something, much cheaper than AARP.

I joined because I needed a supplement policy for medicare when I hit 65 last year. After doing a lot of comparisons, I found that AARP and AMAC had the best packages for my needs. AARP will never get a penny from me, so AMAC it is. Sure, they have discounts on this and that, but nothing that I really use - beyond the health insurance part.
Joining either, does lend another voice to the chorus in terms of lobbying power. Sort of like the NRA for gun rights. I prefer to add my voice to the Conservative side.
A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.
