Our county traps castrates and neuters then releases, what a bad idea.

My grandma used a 12 gauge. I don't have anything to protect from them so I don't mess with them. They are very rare here anyway... apparently plenty of coyotes/feral dogs though.

I had a neighbor cat that kept crapping in my vegetable garden. A short electric fence with a powerful charger that was designed for many miles cattle fence solved the problem. I'm sure he only touched it once but I never saw the cat again. My only regret was I didn't set up a video camera. roflmao

Guy I work with had a real problem with feral cats tried all the baits for a month, with no takers, then he saw a Tube video on covering the bottom of the trap with newspaper, just a few sheets folded over, seems they don't like the feel of cage under their feet, trapped 3 in 1 Day. Used tuna.

Pretty crappy way to kill one though. it's a painful death. I don't think it's legal to kill cats or dogs unless you can prove they're harassing or killing your livestock, but I could be wrong. If you choose to kill them, make it quick and don't tell anybody that you're doing it.

Tylenol will take care of them. Need to grind up a few and place with bait.

Man I hate those things. Neighbor lady growing up got some cat from Africa and let it run loose. Within a few years there were weird cats all over the place. You’d turn down the ally at night and eyes would light up everywhere. Crazy things with back legs twice as long as front and could jump a 6’ fence without touching it. Damn things would always rip our trash bags and dad would make me go pick it all up from everywhere. Can’t stand them or when people let their cats roam the neighborhoods.

I have never even heard of a cat catching goldfish and koi. Maybe good to have around for rodent control.

Guys,

more than a few folks have been prosecuted for shooting or killing cats.

Animal cruelty laws were just passed at the federal level making it a federal offense.

Live trap the feral cats and take them in to the animal shelter.

Some animal shelters will lend traps for no charge.

I feel the same about feral cats as I do about feral hogs, no need to needlessly cause suffering.

And they sure are not worth picking up a criminal record.

Voiced my opinion on this many time. I will go out of my way to make sure a person spends as much time as possible in jail for poisoning cats or dogs. Had a neighbor once who thought it was fun to shoot cats from his front door, he spent 30 days in jail lost his job and paid a hell of a fine. Even when I lived in town I saw more use for cats than I did dogs, at least the cats keep down the mice and rats, Dogs just keep the neighbors awake with their constant yapping. I have a few outside cats now and they do a much needed job that a dog can't do, they keep the rodents and snakes under control. We've got a neighbor about a half mile away who has several pit mixed dogs running lose, so far they've killed one neighbors sheep, another one goats and close to a dozen cats. Other than the occasional surprise in the garden and a few marks on a tires that's about the extent of the damage cats are capable of. I will have outside cats to keep the vermin down, I will shoot any dog that comes on my property and attacks my cats. If a persons dog can wander the area and not cause problems then I have no problem with it, but if it attacks another persons pet I will consider it a dangerous animal and put it down. My dogs do not chase or attack cats (I won't let them) and my dogs are never allowed out of the yard. I can only imagine what a rodent infested mess our cities would be without cats. That's just me and I realize others are different, some just like to kill things in whatever method possible. I like dogs and cats better than I do most people.

In our little town your not allowed to set out live traps and your not allowed to discharge air rifles, have a problem with cats and the city will come set a couple of traps, then they are held for 5 days with a picture posted on a website. If they don't get picked up they will be put down. Violate either of those ordinances and it's going to be an expensive lesson. Loose dogs are dealt with in the same manner. There's an anti tether ordinance also that restricts how a dog can be held on your property. No ropes or chains (No exception) and minimum fence height, those without a fence meeting the requirements can build pens but they also have minimum requirements.

Totally agree, and that is true for almost all animals.

Never understood why we call the worst people animals. I have yet to encounter any animal as bad as the worst people.

Whenever we take an animal’s life, the goal should be to do so quickly and without suffering as much as possible.

Good posts Hwy Man. up

Some of you guys are REAL custodians of nature. Most stray animals won"t live long in the wild, and were probably dumped there by there Owner.
