Wife got one today, I gave it a try. Not bad actually, I am not a fan of burger king, but I was surprised at how much it does taste like meat.

It's funny it's only 30 calories less than the "beef" patty.

Haven’t had that one specifically, but my sister ordered an imitation beef burger one time and it was good. I’ll stick with actual beef, though.

Personally, I’d probably pass on that. I sure don’t have anything against those that do eat them though. God put cows on the earth for me to eat, and I really like the way they taste.

I’ve had a couple of them.....I couldn’t really tell the difference.

Other than the calories, I don’t know much about the relative health of them. But I don’t think it’s about that...it’s about eliminating the resources it takes to raise cattle....something I’m not on board with.

And...it’s going to be tough to get it beyond ground beef....or ground plant-based stuff. The look is pretty easy to replicate.....show me a strip or ribeye though.....

I'm out on principle alone. The whole impossible meat craze/quit eating meat is a purposeful attack on the meat industry and therefore the ranchers and those in the business. I'm not supporting that

Any guesses on what they put in it to make it taste like beef? I'll stick with 90/10 deer burger at the house!

I'm guessing there are a few ingredients in the impossible burger that are impossible to pronounce.

It’s got some serious processed crap in it to make it taste OK and give it texture IIRC....

Since it’s cooked on the same grill, I wonder if it reason it tastes like beef is because it’s basically cooked in normal hamburger grease.

Thanks,
Rich

Hard pass from me. I've devoted my career to helping ensure a safe and wholesome beef and food supply. I'll pass on a product that aims to hurt the meat industry.

I had whataburger tonight and my 8 yr old asked for his usual, double meat, double cheese whataburger Jr.

We'll stick to the real stuff.

Plant-based? Vegan? Fake?

Whatever you want to call them, there’s no doubt that alternative meats are skyrocketing in popularity. But take a look at what these foods are made from. Plant-based meat isn’t as healthy as you’d think.

Marketing leads us to believe that “plant-based” burgers consist solely of that—plants. However, the products specifically designed to mimic the texture and flavor of meat contain an extensive ingredient list that’s at odds with the better-for-you image these foods are trying to create.

We’re being duped into eating heavily processed food that contains numerous preservatives, additives, fillers, texturizers, and chemicals linked to cancer. They’re high in sodium, and low in nutritional quality. Consumers should NOT be told that highly processed fake foods are any better for you than the meat products they’re replacing.

The Plant-Based Meat Ingredient Guide exposes the most concerning ingredients in these heavily processed foods, and lets you see exactly which products you’ll find them in.

From another site;

https://www.cookinglight.com/news/is-the-impossible-burger-healthy

The first Impossible Burger launched in 2016, and the Impossible Foods team has since cleaned up the recipe to include less fat and sodium—it used to pack 14g and 580mg, respectively. Even so, this leaner version still packs a pretty hefty amount of both.

Impossible Burger Nutrition
Below, find the current nutrition facts for one four-ounce patty from the latest Impossible Burger recipe, which is now being served at all available locations as of April 2019:

Calories: 240
Total Fat: 14g
Saturated Fat: 8g
Cholesterol:0
Sodium: 370mg
Total Carbohydrates: 9g
Dietary Fiber: 3g
Total Sugars: <1g< strong>
Protein: 19g
Calcium: 15% DV
Potassium: 15% DV
Source: Impossible Foods

This burger is a great source of plant protein, but is it actually made from plants? Kind of. Let’s check out the ingredients list to get a better determinant on the Impossible Burger’s real health benefits.

Impossible Burger Ingredients
The Impossible Burger has a pretty interesting ingredient list to produce its iconic meaty texture. Below you will find the list of ingredients from the new recipe:

Water, Soy Protein Concentrate, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavors, 2% or less of: Potato Protein, Methylcellulose, Yeast Extract, Cultured Dextrose, Food Starch Modified, Soy Leghemoglobin, Salt, Soy Protein Isolate, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Zinc Gluconate, Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12.

In summary, the Impossible Burger is made with lots of soy, oils, and nutrient additives. While it is vegan, it’s certainly no wholesome veggie burger!
