I have used RL powders, and yes they are temp sensitive, and looking forward to use the newer RL 16, 23 and 26 soon. My question if using RL 16, do i substitute it for the RL 15 or the 17? The 16 sits in between 15 and 17.
Has anyone had any temp sensitive issues with 16, 23 and 26? I like to push my bullets a little faster than those Hodgdon powders, but I don't like temp swings.
Cheers

I've messed with all of them a bit though a majority is 23 (around 24lbs used). 16 in my experience is just in between varget and 4350 even though they say its I the 4350 area.
As far as temp stability goes 16 and 23 area stellar. 26 isn't listed but has been pretty stable in my 22 creed but it carbon fouls on a horrendous level. I have to scrub every 200-300rds or it forms a ring that is a pain to deal with. It gives stellar speed though.

Only one of the new ones I've messed with is RL33....it's not temp stable and that waste of money will probably keep me from trying the rest.

R22 was one of my favorite powders I ran for a long time in my 300 WM. It certainly was temp sensitive, but you could account for it. The RL powders do get good velocity though. You just can't work up a max load in the winter time, or else you be be locking up bolts and blowing primers in the summer.

I have used a lot of Reloder 26 and while its not considered one of the temperature insensitive powders Reloder sells its really not that bad. Nowhere near as bad as Reloder 33 like Judd mentioned. Now Reloder 16 and 23 seem pretty stable to me in the cartridges I have used them in. My load data shows Reloder 16 to be closer to Reloder 17 and pretty close to H4350... I think if memory serves Sierra manual shows slightly higher charges for Reloder 16 than H4350 in the 6.5 Creedmoor so its slightly slower?
Myself and a friend have used Reloder 16 in 30-06 with 185-200gr bullets quite a bit for 1000 yd shooting with very good results over past two years......
he is shooting it in a Modern Savage that's a LR Bench rest set-up and I am using it in a 1943 O3A3 for vintage matches.

Will RL16 work well for the .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor and in what bullet weights? It’s not IMO a really good choice in 308..little too slow and bulky. Now in 6.5 Creedmoor it’s a good choice with 130 and heavier bullets.

Reply I received from Alliant James, Its worse than gold dust. We received a lot of the REldoer-26 at the end of June. We are still shipping this out to distributors. We first filled backorders to the distributors we have across the country. The distributors then filled the backorders to their dealers/retailers. Finally, the dealers/retailers filled their backorders to the end customers (such as yourself). What is/was left did not last on the shelves more than a few days. We are still producing the RL-26. It is essentially trickling in from Sweden. This propellant has taken the market by storm. In the last 8-12 months the RL-26 has gained a tremendous following amongst the long range shooters who buy this by the 8 pound jugs to those that hunt. We hit a grand slam with this propellant. The sales in recent months have taken us by surprise and we are no playing catch up. Keep looking for the RL-26 on the shelves. It is not going away. We received a shipment in port last week. It is now being packed. Hopefully there will be enough to put on the shelves after all the backorders are filled. Our next shipement will be in before the end of the year we are told, we'll see though. Buzz buzz buzzz....Honest truth I got a call Tuesday asking how much Reloder 26 I would buy if my friend decided to take 48lbs.... he wanted me to take half but I already have 24 so I said 16 ... 8 for me and 8 for Buzz ....... crickets He texted again yesterday and asked so since I haven’t heard from Buzz I told him never mind so he told his supplier he passed.
Buzz if you really want Reloder 26 I will personally deliver it tomorrow to the DFW area 8 Ibs just say the word.

Thanks fellas, I look forward to buy some 16, and some 26 for the Creedmoor. I'll just try out the Enduron 4166 for the .308 and see how it does. Cheers

I have heard RL 16 referred to as “RL 16.9” basically it is RL 17 but more temp insensitive. I am not saying you use RL 17 data for RL 16. Use sound reloading principles and work up slowly
