Thinking about dumping out some protein or sweet feed around my feeder to maybe help entice the deer that travel through our place to come back more often. We don’t have a lot of deer that live on our place, just mainly passing through.
What would y’all recommend I dump on the ground near the feeder to maybe help out.

The deer and hogs don’t touch the protein that I mixed in my timed dispersal corn feeders. They suck up all the corn but the protein pellets are untouched. They eventually disintegrate when it rains.
I’ve had good success with both deer and hogs feeding on the protein blocks but they don’t last very long.

Pigs eat anything where I hunt. Protine feed, range cubes you name it, deer barely have a chance. Best bet is plant food plots next year, I think that your best bet.

try alfalfa if you don't run Cattle where your feeders are. I can put a half of a (square) bale out in the evening, and the deer will walk past corn to eat the alfalfa. Some places deer love it, while others they ignore. You will have to test it and see which camp your deer are in. Took this pic while Bow hunting last weekend. These two are at 20 yards. And no... didn't shoot. Still too young.

You are looking for a pure attractant, and I have found deer very readily take to corn and roasted soy. They love it.
You could also look into using some of that forbidden feed, what’s it called double down, as purely an attractant. The nut flavor seems to draw the deer in.

If the deer have not ever seen or tasted anything different you put out, they probably won't take to it very quickly IME. If you do not have a feed pen and have hogs/cattle then you are only wasting your money. I would dump a half a bag of corn out in one pile if you have a feed pen. I had a corn feeder spin about 150# of corn out on the ground and had 15 different bucks show up during that hot August time frame. Some were even in during the daylight hours which is rare in that heat. None of those bucks live on that place and travel in from neighbors places. This was at a feeder I have never seen 15 bucks in any one year in the last 45 yrs. I put a new AA batteries in timer and 12 volt battery in the feeder control box to fix the problem. After that corn was gone, only a couple of those 15 bucks have been back a few times since. I need to dump another 50-100 lbs of corn out to see if they will come back in again.

I haven't seen a deer yet in any part of Texas that I have hunted that will pass up horse sweet feed Tractor supply about $10 a bag. Cant put in feeder too sticky, but I have got it to work pretty good in those Moultrie free choice feeders you hang on a tree, just doesn't last very log and you can put it up high enough where most hogs cant get to it.

I would imagine the coons eat the heck out of it as well.

If they won't come to corn they are not there.

The only thing I'd try is a trophy rock / bio rock, which is mostly salt with slight trace minerals. The 'better' ones are just all natural chunks of rock mined from areas with a high mineral content.

Not this year, they clear out the sweet feed but corn is piling up under the feeders. Not sure why.

Rice bran trumps everything for me.

They do. Just need to thin the herd. Sweet feed works well for me. Also, 'Red chain 38% pellets" bring the deer in at our place. Smells like peanut butter. Tastes like a candy bar. Yes, I tried eating some. Darn tasty stuff.
