I got lucky and won’t a bull barrel 17hmr with thumbhole stock. I want to find a reasonable scope for shooting rabbits, foxes and other small game from a mule or ranger. It’s been a long time since I didn’t any shopping for a scope so I’m asking for recommendations. Trying to stay around 250 but may can stretch that some.... what would you consider and why?

SWFA has their fixed 6x and 10x on sale right now for $199. Those scopes have a lot of features that many will never use though. If you don’t have interest in shooting longer range these scopes are nothing special. They would be perfect on a 22 or 17 for someone who wants to account for bullet drop and or wind.

Hard to be a Leupold 3X9. Congratulations on the rifle and best of luck.

Thanks for the responses. I always seem to get good service out of the few Leupold scopes I have or have had in the past. May just stay with them. I really don’t know much about the swfa brand of scopes, but I will spend some time researching them.

At that price point, I'd check out the best Burris on Midway USA, or Natchez Shooters Supply I could find. It may be a model from 2 years ago but quality and clarity to me, Burris hard to beat at that price.

Very interested in this scope. I'm not familiar with this brand, but read nice reviews. Anything better that compares in the sub $500 range?

Not for the $399 it's currently on sale for. The brand has a stellar reputation for durability and mechanical reliability.

Is it worth the $125 upgrade?

My apologies to op, as it's not my intent to hijack your thread.

Yes. I have both and bought that one for that price at Natchez. Well worth the extra for the glass, zero stop, illumination and 10 mils per rotation.

No worries I’m learning and looking too.... might save another couple hundred and buy later... you know, “ buy one cry once.”
