I am looking at building a pretty big stand for me and grandkids. Has anyone used diy spray foam kit? Did you like it and price please. Thank you

I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.

Here's a price answer...

Google "spray foam deer blinds" lots to see.

Here's a commercial mfr.

The spray foam kits tend to run pretty high in price. If I were you, I'd just use something like styrofoam insulation instead, if the price matters to you. On top of that, there's typically a lot of the foam in the kits so I believe it would do more than even a pretty big blind would need. Only other option is what Charlie recommended and that's to use a commercially made stand.

Call around, professionals will do it for you, if they in town. anywhere from 75 to 130 a sq foot... be cheaper then using spray foam in cans

avid deer hunter that is disable but God has still blessed me.

Not to mention that it's not exactly practical to use the spray foam in the cans for insulating full walls. It's a huge pain lol.

Charlie hit the nail on the head with the A and B canisters. He also gave you a link for closed cell foam which has been shown to not absorb water and provide significantly better insulation. All of that said, you'd need several of those kits he posted from Lowe's if you were really doing a blind right.

Assume you have an 8x5 blind you're building (I went bigger so figure out what your size is). You probably would want to spray the whole thing inside, so that would be:
- 40 sq ft per front and back wall minus window area
- 40 sq ft for the ceiling (double it if you want to do the floor)
- 25 sq ft for each side wall minus window area
Total - 130 sq ft (not including floor)

That would allow you spray 1.5" depth to get your board feet. Personally, I would want to be 2-3" on the walls for sound deadening and heat transfer.

Count on leaving it out unskinned to off-gas, then shave it down and skin it with OSB to keep it in good shape (assuming you frame)

I've tried this in small spaces and it's really messy. The A/B cans don't yield anywhere near what they say and it gets real expensive real fast. What I did in a very small cabin is buy some R5 foam board from lowes and cut it neatly to fit between studs. I bought a "pro kit" spray foam in the can (orange) and sprayed it along the seams between the studs and the edges of the foam. It expands and seals the gaps completely and you end up sealed really, really well. This is a much cheaper solution. It won't get you as high an r-value but a catalytic heater will take care of making it more comfortable. Note that closed cell spray foam has an r-value of about 6 and those a/b kits are board feet at 1" thick as TLew mentions above so it won't be cheap. My cabin was fairly easy to cool down and warm up once I had the entire walls and roof with R5 sealed with great stuff pro.

I have the insulation contractor i use do mine but I'm a GC so I'm at an advantage. I can say it's the best thing ever for a deer blind. My kids can be pretty loud and go unnoticed. this is the last one I had sprayed.
