I'm the worlds worst. Do you use your finger or the tube?

Thanks a bunch Mile. He used both. I need to get a dripless gun. My wife did this straight out of a squeeze tube.

If it’s acrylic caulking, yep. All you need is a slightly wet rag, folded perfectly, giving you numerous finger wipes before having to rinse it all out. Lord I can’t even begin to think of how many tubs, showers, around sinks, C-tops, toilets, even all around the bottom of baseboards I’ve done while I was a make-ready guy in the apartment world.

Silicone caulking? You’re on your own. I hate using it inside for anything(even though I kinda love the smell)

What? confused2

I have used some caulking in one of our bathrooms and it seems to have dark places in the caulk. What causes this?

Thanks

If it's water based/Latex it could be mold.

I suck at it. Wet finger for me. Ex-wife and I remodeled our formal dining room a few years before the split. I did the crown moulding myself and it looked dang good. I left just enough reveal between the top edge of the moulding and the ceiling for a nice shin bead of caulk and dead-level moulding.

Well, when I bought the material I forgot caulk. So as I was finishing up; wifey ran to the store for some white caulk. As soon as she got back I slapped the tube of caulk in the gun and finished up. It looked perfect! Like something you'd see on "This Old House" or something! The next morning we get up and go admire our handiwork. Holy crap....you could see the reveal all the way around the dining room. I was like, WTH, did the caulk shrink? I ran to the trash can and pulled out the caulk tube. Yup...Goes on WHITE, dries clear. Wanting to finish the job I failed to take the simple step of reading the dang caulk tube. bang

I’m not the best with a caulking gun but I can get by. Learned a few things along the way from other people.

First, don’t wipe you finger on a rag. Get a piece of board or cardboard and roll you finger to get the excess caulk off. With rag you end up with it all over your hands after a while. You can use the excess caulk on the board.

Also, a drop of soap in water to wet you finger keep the caulk from sticking to your finger helps.

When caulking a baseboard to get an even paint line, caulk more on the baseboard than wall.

Thanks, Billy

a trick I learned is to cut the tube on about a 45* angtle then cut the tip off so it is squared, you can adjust the cut and angle to get the width you want. takes a bit to get it down but when you do it makes it a lot easier.
