Found this on vacation last month in upstate New York on a very back country road near Niagara Falls.

Haven't been able to find anything on the web so I thought I'd post it up here....what say you....???

Wheels roll very free without bearings....cast steel with very old hardware...lots of holes in both pieces of for different adjustments. At first I thought it was something to do with a horse-drawn implement but not sure considering how small it is....long bar is 19 inches to the back of the axel and the axel is 16 inches from outside each wheel.....wheels are 2.5 inches by 9.5 inches.....

McHarris in the casting...couldn't find anything on them.....did find stuff on Massey-Harris but couldn't find thins piece....
[Linked Image]

Forged square nail that was either hot or cold formed into a rivet in the board...next to zero scaled rust....excellent condition considering the age....

I don't have a clue what it is or was used for....ideas or suggestions?

I've seen seed planters with wheels that small so that's what I'd guess, but it would truly be a guess.

Yeah....some kind of guide wheel apparatus for a larger horse drawn planter or plow is what I was thinking but have spent a couple days looking at old implements and didn't see anything close with duel wheels.

The other this is that the spokes on the wheels are curved rather than straight....very thin wheel face makes me think lighter load application....

Still looking....

No date....Pat. MAHarris as best as I can tell...

I could clean it up with a wire brush but don't want to mess up the patina….

The wheels could be seed packers, that pack the dirt down on top of the seed. My guess is part of a planter set up probably pulled by a mule or horse.

The holes in the part in the third pic would control the depth of the furrow. O.ne end shallow, the other end deep and others in between

That's about all I can come up with. Still looking at old implement pics and can't identify what it is.

Well obviously its got wheels on it so you don't have to carry that piece of wood, you can just pull it along.
