This guy snuck up on me at the bank of our lake at our lease. Is it a diamondback water snake?

Yes
They’re fearless I’ve had them follow after my dogs swimming in the tank until they got a load of #7 1/2’s.

Yeppers....most often confused as a cottonmouth....cottonmouths are usually very docile and mild mannered whereas most watersnakes and especially diamondback watersnakes are very aggressive...

Pretty wild. An expletive or two...so be forewarned.

Well, I had just taken off my 10mm and went to our dock for cell signal. He lived. Had I had my pistol, probably not. But I saw his head and knew he was non venomous.

Foul hook one with a big top water bait and see how aggressive they are.

Crazy video. I don’t think venomous or not I’d let him that close.

LOL Did that once cause the damn thing was trying to climb in the back of my boat. Swated at him with my rod and foul hooked him about mid body. Only had about 12 inches of line released but the snake was trying to climb the rod. Just saying I could have won America's Funniest with that.
