Have any of you had any first-hand experience with reloading for this chambering? As near as I can tell, there shouldn't be anything special about it. Just a .223 caliber that can safely handle the 5.56 NATO. I have an upper in this chambering, with a 1:8 twist, and have read on the various blogs that it will produce good groups with the heavier, 77 grain and up, bullets. What's your experience? Please, not what you've read or heard from your buddies (I've read and heard all that before!): real-life, personal experience playing around with this chambering would be appreciated.

With an 8 twist 75-80 will be your upper limit on bullet weight, and even some of those (depends on design) will not stabilize properly. Chad/Jason/et al will be along shortly with more information. I don't load for it but I have a Wylde 18" upper.

I just got back from the range where I ran several loads through the Wylde. It did not like the 55 grain factory fodder, but when I loaded up some 65 grain Sierra's, it made the new toy smile. 5 shots that I could cover easily with a quarter. Out of a brand new, unseasoned barrel, and with old Shaky Jake here at the trigger, I was happy. I've got heavier bullets on order: 77 and 80 grainers, and will see just how well it will dance with these heavy, match grade bullets.

BTW, the reloads I used for the test drive on the Wylde this morning were ones I had cooked up for my bolt action .223. To be more specific, the Sierra's were their Catalog #1395, Spitzer Boat Tails, using 22 grains of I-8208 powder and set off by CCI Small Rifle Primers. The COAL is 2.225.

I've got a couple .223 Wylde barreled AR-15's. Have had good luck shooting the Sierra 65gr Gamekings(1385) using varget and TAC. I've never shot bullets heavier than that but have shot 55gr Vmax's out of them with great success as well with both powders. I used CCI450's with a OAL of 2.260

It appears that TAC has been successfully used by other Wylde shooters so I'll be cooking up some rounds using it (and the Varget). Thanks for the suggestions!

I've got one. I just treated it like a .223, and it does well.

If your barrel is 16" or more, keep rolling with that powder (IMR-8208) and those primers (CCI-400) That makes for some damn good AR ammo.

Thanks, Fireman; it's an 18 inch barrel and I'll keep on working with the 8208 since my results with it have been good.

Been loading for a 223Wylde chambered Remington 722 for years.
Also have a couple of ARs with same chamber in an AR Performance 16" 1/8 twist barrels.
Shooting 69gr OTMBTs over Varget, I get really tight groups at the range.
Use that same load on deer and varmints and it's 7 for 7 on whitetails.

Edit: The bolt gun has slower twist and likes 55gr anythings and 60gr SPs the best.

Got some factory 77 and 80 grain fodder to run through the new upper, and it didn't like them at all! Setting up at just 50 yards to begin, it looked like I was shooting a load of buckshot at the target! Thinking that my scope had come loose or the reticle was rattling around in it, I tried my Sierra 65's, and they all poured right into the same ragged hole again. I'll try a few of the other heavier bullets, but I'm not sure I can do much better as a shooter!! Thanks for all the suggestions.
