I know that this isn't Texas hunting related but, it is deer hunting related.

I also know that it might be a long shot but still worth a shot.

Me and some buddies have decided to make a trip to Kansas next year to do some Public land whitetail hunting. We have never been, don't know anything about it or the areas that are public.
We have been looking at the maps of public areas in south eastern Kansas and know of some spots but that's it.

My question is this, Has anyone done this before? Have any insight on some of the public land? We are just starting to look into this and get the ball rolling on planning the trip out and any helpful info that could get us going in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. PM if you'd prefer.

Drawing a tag will help.

Not that this has to do with public land knowledge up there, but when I was up there in September the Outfitter and the guys that worked for him loved hunting around Halloween. In the past they said there something that gets into those deer around that time, that's their archery season for them.

I've heard the same thing from the 2 guys that I know that have been there. Halloween is a day you hunt if you can.

I knew you have to draw a tag but unsure on the draw process as well as the rest. Ive got alot of reading and searching to do! Sure wish it was still like the good ol days of driving into a small rural town, buy a license and knock on doors to ask to hunt.. Now it seems even to hunt public is too darn expensive
