My trailer at my previous lease was down in a valley in the hill country, so antennas were pretty much useless. I picked up an extra dish for DirecTV off Amazon and brought one of the receivers from our house to the lease when I went out. This is what we did. Our place was 135 miles from the house but we still got all of the DFW local stations too.

With DirecTV I can get the same channels on my phone as I can at home. I just open the DirecTV app and watch whatever. As long as you have cell service you should be able to do it.

Used the Dish tailgater past few years fine. This year just been streaming to my Roku TV and works great. I stick the phone in a tree and use the ESPN, etc apps on the TV.

Im one of the ones who doesn't want a tv at the ranch. We do have one for the kids but its dvd only at this point.
Have an uncle that has dish network at home, he added a box to his account for an additional bedroom and got an old dish from us that the provider didn't come get and we weren't using and set it up at his fishing camp and it works fine.

We have 2 Direct TV antennas and one Dish. I have Dish at home so I just bought a receiver. The Dish itself was free but I had to buy the LNB. I have a big spool of RG6U that a neighbor gave me so cable is no problem. I also have one of the "150 mile" antennas. There is no such thing as 150 mile antenna. If you are on a hill with nothing between you and the towers then maybe 70. I can adjust the antenna and get Austin or Belton and if just right I get channel 2 out of San Antonio. Digital is different then the old analog. Digital works best on clear days. I am about 50+ miles from the Austin towers and if foggy forget it. One thing I don't get is why do the carppy channels come in best?

Had the DISH "PLAY MAKER" for two months and it would not hold signal in my area. So went with a free ground install since I have DISH at home; only charge for an added receiver.

Main reason I have the TV/wifi now. Three women (a wife and two daughters under the age of 10) and me in a travel trailer would cause someone to go crazy over a long weekend without some more entertainment.

I almost never watch it unless I'm at the lease alone, but I have an Amazon Fire Stick with a bunch of streaming apps loaded on it. We have good cell coverage so I use my phone as a mobile hot spot. Works great.

The higher off the ground you put the antenna, the farther away it can "see". Distance to horizon increases. Of course it also increases the chance of it getting hit by lightning, but you will have a better chance of getting a signal. You can also buy an adapter for most phones that will charge your phone and give you an HDMI output. You might have to mess with the settings on the TV to get it to look right.
