Picked a new to me caliber 6.8SPC. Wondering what bullet wt. you like for hog and deer? Is there one that works very well for both? What are your suggestions for bullet, powder and primer(if it makes a difference) Once I know I'll start load workup. That's the most fun with a new cartridge.

I load 90 grain Gold Dots and 110 grain Sierra Pro Hunters. If I were going to only load one bullet, it would be the 90 grain Gold Dot.

Accurate 2200 is a very popular powder for the 6.8. For deer and hogs, 115 Gold Dot, 120 SST or 110 Sierra Pro Hunters. I wouldn't spend extra for premium bullets like the Accubond or TSX.

I load the 110 gr Sierra pro hunter, and IMR 3031 powder. Right at 2700 fps. Great accuracy and hogs drop quick. Not many pass throughs.

I thought I read that the pro hunter has been discontinued, is that incorrect? I stand corrected, Powder Valley had 8 boxes, and I just ordered 1 box to try.

Doe's the current Sierra manual list the 110gr Pro Hunter for the 6.8SPC using AA2200 powder? If anyone has a good start weight and max I sure would appreciate it. Hate to buy a manual for just one bullet. Barrel is a ARP 16" 3R 1x10 scout.

My AR shoots factory ammo really well so I've only dabbled in reloading for the 6.8.

This. Recent lazy 5-shot group with a dirty rifle, Fed Fusion 115gr. Cousin used it two weeks after this pic to take a doe.

Been using 6.8s for about 10 years
Ran just about everything out there including a lot of handloads

I use the 120 SST factory ammo the most the last few years

My experience is that 120 SSTs are great on hogs with good expansion. They will work on deer but don’t expand well. If you plan your shot accordingly, you will be fine for both animals.

I've shot both 115 Federal Fusions and 110 SSA Nosler ABs. All have grouped sub-MOA out of my 12.5" barrel. Since I finally have time to reload again, I've got a nice load worked up with Barnes 95 gr TTSX and H322. Looking forward to see how they perform on hogs and deer.

Nice group. I used 115 Fusion on a young buck a few years ago. He dropped on the spot with a heart/lung shot.

This year I'm just using S&B 110 PTS factory ammo I picked up for $15 a box. It shoots as good as Hornady and Federal.

I just loaded a test batch of Sierra 110 from 26.5 grains to 29 grains. This was based on load data in the guide linked from Accurate pg 58.
110 SIERRA SPT PH 26.1 2,454 29.0 2,685 58,410 2.260

My guess is great but not as good as the 300 HAMMR.

110gr Sierra Prohunters at 2400fps from my SBR work great on whitetail and hogs. Good expansion and still have enough energy to exit. I use CCI #400 and H4198 because I started with it and found it accurate enough at ~1.5" at 100yds for my purposes. There are better powders and better bullet combos, but I don't have the time or willpower to dedicate to testing a round I only shoot every so often.

90gr Gold Dots are also a really good choice for a hunting round, and you can get them really moving out of a longer barrel.

I've shot factory 120sst's with good results and reloaded with the the 120sst's as well. Keep in mind often times the core will separate from jacket. However, they still kill a pig pretty good if you do your part. I've also had pretty good luck reloading with Speer 90 and 115 grain Gold Dots. Never lost a jacket on them. Been able to work up good loads using H322, re10x for the 120sst's. As for the speer gold dots I used WC844 with good luck for both.

Retired U. S. Army, which means I still have to work to make a living.

90gr gold dots and AA2200 for me as well. I have been dabbling with the 100gr GMX but havent got it dialed in yet. I think I will put new glass on it first before I venture for another round dev.
