Hey folks, I'm looking for something to replace a Hornady light Magnum 270 130 grain interbond... I've been shooting these for about 15 years... my wife just bought me a Leupold vx5 with a firedot Reticle and after dialing it in I just realized I'm down to my last five rounds... From what I read Hornady superformance basically replaced the light Magnums... I'm not a big fan of basic ballistic tips henceforth why I've been shooting an Interbond , I do like an exit hole on whitetail deer.... Somebody also highly suggested the new Winchester Supremes, but I'm open to yalls insight and wisdom thanks.

If you liked the performance of the interbonds i would look at accubonds, any other loadings with interbonds, federal fusion, or swift sirrocows.
Other good exit wound producing but not as bc minded bullets would be a nosler partition.

I usually load my own, but about 10 yrs ago, I bought 3 boxes of the hornady light magnum 130 gr interbonds. They graph over 3100 fps, very accurate and perform well on game. I don't have many left either.

Hornady discontinued the Light and Heavy Magnum loads several years ago and brought out the Superformance line.
Some report excellent results from them but others do not. In my 7mm-08 that loved the light magnums so much they equaled my reloads for accuracy with the Light Mags but the superformance loads shoot 3+ MOA where as the light mags were in the half MOA for 3 shot groups. I spoke with Hornady Tech about it and he admitted his personal deer rifle was like mine and he is like me back to reloading for that rifle. He said a lot of rifles like the superformance, but those that do not really hate it

I really like the Winchester Power-Max bonded 130grn . Been using them for a few years now and have had 100% success rate on Whitetail

The . 270 superformance ammo with the 130 GMX bullet shoots great and averages 3115 FPS with a 22” barrel in my daughter’s rifle. Try it your rifle may shoot the superformance ammo

I sure wish I had bought more of these. When I bought the 3 boxes, Midway was selling for about 16 dollars a box.

Look up Chad on here. Custom Reloads of Dallas. He loaded me some .270 with 130 gr accubonds. I ran them across my chrony and got an Extreme spread of 15. Very good ammo. Pricing is about on par with what you pay for premium ammo at cabelas or academy.

If I'm not mistaken That is the same bullet Hornady is using in their Whitetail Hunter line. If I were you I at least check them out. I know they have a 130 Grain interBond bullet in the .270, but don't know anything about the velocity. Hope this helps.

Lots of folk on here sneer at Core Lokt bullets, but I’ve shot it in my .270 Win for decades with no problems. Have taken deer-sized game from 0 yards (directly under my tree stand) to 350 yards (Wyoming Pronghorn). Factory 130 grain shot under MOA in all three of my rifles.

Ive stopped using the Hornady ballistic tips. Either no exit wound or very small one with extremely light blood trail if any at all. I like a big hole on exit with lots of blood pouring out. Im using lead tipped bullets like the Rem Core Lokt or Federal Power Shock, Winchester power point now.

The polymer tipped bullets are what Im referring to. I had been using the Hornady superformance gmx plastic tipped bullets. Don't like them. Had tried another kind of Hornady polymer tipped bullet and it produced the same type of small entrance and no exit wound. Im only using the lead tipped bullets now.

I’m 100% certain it has nothing to do with polymer tip. It’s the construction of the bullet behind it. In fact the Hornady Interbond is one tough bullet yet looks very similar to the Amax or Nosler Ballistic Tip. The GMX is actually a soldid and should be their best penetrating bullet.

The GMX is a solid cupper/gilding metal bullet like the barnes or E-tip that nosler makes. Unless you shoot very light for caliber and very fast all of them are well known to produce small wound channels compared to lead core bullets. Like Chad and wp75169 said its not a function of the plastic tip though.

I have several .270 Win. rifles, and I tend to use factory Core Lokt 130 grain loads as my baseline for each one before handloading. One of my rifles ( Browning X Bolt White Gold Medallion) likes them so much I don't handload for it. Bought a BUNCH of the same lot number and just roll with it. When I get low I'll start researching a handload for it, but that won't happen for a while. They just work and work well for what I use the rifle for.

Hornady 130 Grain SST is where it's at. Just a tack driving accurate round.

I use the 140gr. BTSP Hornady interlock in .270win and its performance has been flawless; oddly enough I found that the 140gr Nosler Accubond loaded to the same length, primer and powder charge(RL22 .5gr under max) have the same point of impact and I can switch between them at will.
As stated by other the 130gr Winchester Power Max is a bonded bullet at a good price, and I've seen them used extensively on whitetail 200+ lbs

WalMart's got Winchester 270 130gr & 150gr at $17.49 a box. These shoot lot's mo bettah than the Federal Blue Box stuff at the same price in both my 270's.
FYI Earlier this year I bought some very recent 270 130 gr'ers RP's out of an estate sale couple months ago and had 2 rounds out of 14 fired loose their primer seal and smoke the bottom half of the case in a cloud of smoke ...and I had to go change my shorts ....Thank You Jesus for the gas handling system on the FN Carolina built M70. Only damage is a little smoke ring around the bolt's firing pin hole that had been super clean with it's low round count.
The Rifle has had less than 200 rounds total thru it .....1st in burning up some of my 5-10 year old ancient handloads 2 years ago, then this year I shot paper after getting some steriod shots in my shoulder that allowed me to shoot for the 1st time this year....with all the leftovers in factory Federal, Winchester and something else more recent I can't remember, and a partial box of some 40+ year old Norma, and newer than that leftover 20+ year old Federal, Winchester. FWIW the '70's era 5 rounds of Norma gave me 1 1/2" group with 3 holes almost touching.
Had fired half a box of these RP's with no issues except goofy inconsistent groups, in comparison to some estate bought WW's for Montana while zeroing a new scope mounting job before my Lottery Hunt earlier this month, but gonna pull all the bullets in the rest of the RP box and ditch the primers & powder..and NO MORE factory fresh RP's for me...EVER. Ron
