My brother-in-law put up a "100 mile" outdoor antenna this weekend at the lease and surprisingly we got a few channels Saturday night; however, conditions were ideal...no wind, no clouds, ect. Sunday morning he was only able to get 2 or 3 channels. From what I've read most long range antenna's are good from 70-80 miles regardless of what the box says. We're about 100-115 miles from most broadcast towers.

Wanted to know what suggestions everyone had for TV at the lease...doesn't have to be free, but not going to pay $100/month. I've heard some people discuss getting a satellite that goes on an RV and its tied to your home satellite package...maybe. Any ideas would be appreciated.

And yes I know there are those who believe shouldn't be any TV at a deer lease.

My brother "added a room" to his DirecTV, I think it costs him like $5/month. We went to the local satellite shop and bought a dish for less than $100, I am sure you could find one cheaper if you tried hard enough.

Or, if you have an unlimited data plan on your phone you can stream using the dish app for free from your phone to the TV or I am pretty sure apple TV will work as well if your phone is a WIFI hotspot. We have satellite TV, netflix and WIFI at our camp now with the WIFI hotspots on the phone.

My trailer at my previous lease was down in a valley in the hill country, so antennas were pretty much useless. I picked up an extra dish for DirecTV off Amazon and brought one of the receivers from our house to the lease when I went out. Depending on where you live and the distance to your lease, you may not get your local channels on DirecTV. However, you’ll get everything else. At my new lease, I get most channels from an antenna, so I haven’t been in a big rush to setup the DirecTV dish. I still bring one of my DirecTV boxes with me and I can watch things that are pre-recorded. However, without the dish I don’t get anything live. I also have good cell service at the new lease and I’ve really consider streaming everything instead of messing with the antenna or dish.

Thanks,
Rich

Put a preamp in to boost the signal. Channel Master makes great stuff.

Their website has a section where you set where you are located and what type of antenna you have and it will show you what you need.

Same here. I get better reception out here than I do in big D. Lots of Mexican channels with the midget clowns and girls with big chee- chees.

The first one I ever had was at a lease near Benavides. It was before satellite TV came in. I brought an old antenna and a table top TV to the lease over the holidays. It was the weekend of the NFL playoffs. It happened to be some of the best games ever.

Does your phone get service out there? If so just stream it from your cell phone to the TV. If you don't stream at home you can just buy streaming service by the month.

Pretty sure you'd need need wifi to do that.

For me dish has an app that I can stream/watch my dvr shows on my phone.. You can buy a cable to hook your phone to the TV or use your phone as a WI-FI hotspot and use Apple TV to do the same thing. The Apple TV is a little more difficult.

If you have cell service this is pretty easy to achieve via using your phone as a hotspot.

To get the best reception available you need to tune the antenna direction ( rotate ) some folks install a rotator system.
A quality pre amp certainly can help.
In line RF amp can help also.

To get the best rural Tv signal possible takes a little work, using one of the ' help chose solutions ' maps works.

Channel master
Wilson
Winegard

Less expensive than a dish or direct bill every month.

Comes down to what you want and already have. If you have satellite at home the 5-7$ a month cost is nothing and it is month to month so you can cut it off in the summer. Best option if you want HD tv with tons of channels. An over the air antenna is free every month but extremely limiting by distance and channel selection.

Sorry, we go to deer woods to get away from tv. Run the old trailer on a battery, and propane. Have a 30+ year old radio, but that’s all. Make more memories that way!!!!!

I do not watch the television at home or listen to the radio. Obviously I am on the computer. I have a do it all cell phone but do not get online with it. When I go to the ranch the only thing man made that I care too see is my blind, a feeder and possibly an old cedar and wire fence in the far off distance. Would not have good reception anyway. Get some of my most gratifying naps and looks at wildlife and sunsets.....Life is good.

We have dish tailgator for 7 bucks a month it's pretty good but we are too far to get local channels so if I change it where we get local to the lease channels, it kicks out the regular channels at home (ol lady was pissed) so I called them and for 40 bucks a month I have all channels at home and lease. They said it is pay as you use, so you pre pay for the month then can turn it off and on as you want. So if I call them on the way home each time, I will probably get the whole season for 40 bucks because I doubt we will use more than a months worth all season.

I have a place at Bowie and generally just buy an antenna from Walmart. I get quite a few D/FW channels because my place is on a hill so better line of sight. They last a couple of years. I agree with the guy on the link that NORML posted.

My cousin setup an antenna at our deer camp back when satellite TV was getting real popular. We could get the playboy channel. All of the women in the family couldn't understand why we liked hunting so much.
