That was the first thought I had as well. An old pump action Stevens or Winchester...would complete the picture. Otherwise, I agree with it.

A hunting household should not be without a .22 rimfire.

Hard to say on the bolt action .22, there were so many brands (even store labeled brands) back then. It might be easier to I.D. if we knew that the rear sight (looks to be a peep) came on the rifle or was added later. Only a few manufacturers offered a peep back then (mossberg for one).

The flyswatter on the left however looks to be a TrueValue model FS21 wink

Growing up in the late 80’s, we had a glass window gun cabinet in the living room.

Dad had a Marlin 30-30, a Mossberg 12 gauge and a Winchester auto .22. He retained the shotgun and a new to him savage .30-06 until he passed.

Had an uncle whose house I loved going over to visit, because he was a big hunter. We thought he was Jim Bridger. He had not one, but TWO whitetail deer shoulder mounted in his office, plus a gun cabinet with glass where you could see his 3 centerfire gun collection ( .220 swift, marlin .30-30 and a 7mm rem mag) a few .22’s, a couple of shotguns and a odd trio of pump 410’s.

Most of the people we knew who hunted were like us, lower to mid middle class who owned maybe 3 guns, maybe had a shoulder mount in there house and hunted a lease or family place within a few hours of the house on the weekends. I didn’t know one person who had a legitimate collection of guns or mounts ( not until I was in high school did I meet someone who did )

Lots of glass gun cabinets back in those days too, you had your guns in the living room.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
