Im in for this also.. Found some good hunting land and for very good prices in Ok, but when think about having to buy the non resident license AND deer tags each year, it all starts to add up. Good luck on your search

I hunt in jefferson county... there are big deer, as well as, great duck hunting if you are into that too! But as stated above, gets pricey, archery tag, rifle tag, and general license with respective addons for waterfowl, it runs close to 800$. That is the only downside

I was told after two years of paying taxes there you could apply for a resident license? Might of been bad information.

From what i have found online, not sure if the above is true or not? Hoping to hear from others that it is true tho. Wanting to purchase land within the next year and can get more for the money in ok but dont know if i can swing it with all the money needed for tags n etc... Seems alot of land in texas thats affordable, that ive seen anyways, is part of a big ranch thats selling off tracts. Just not too keen on that myself but

I can't find anything that states anything about paying taxes to get a residence hunting licence.

From the game and fish website:

Residency
A “Resident” is any individual who has an established residence in Oklahoma for 60 or more consecutive days. For the lifetime, senior, and 5-year licenses, the period of residency must be six months or more.
A “Nonresident” is any individual who is a resident of another state or who has resided in Oklahoma for a period of less than 60 days, regardless of whether he or she intends to make Oklahoma his or her home.
Active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, their spouse and any dependents, are considered residents if permanently assigned to a military installation located in the state.

Back when I lived in OK (1999), they requested my driver's license as proof of residency.

This is what is required for a resident license in OK.

You can own property up there, but if you don't have an OK DL then you'll be buying out of state tags.

Texas is the same way. I had got a pretty pricy ticket a few years ago. I was living in texas for four years for work receiving bills, paying property tax, etc, but kept my Louisiana license since my permanent home is located there. I got a texas ID which was legal and bought a resident fishing and hunting license which was apparently not legal.

So to sum it up if your homestead is in texas you are a texas resident and have to purchase non resident license even though you own property.
