Yea, I don't see a tag on that buck either, after all the grief these perfect guys gave to another, makes you chuckle. But, thanks for doing a thankless job much of the time! And congrats on a great buck.

Yea, I don't see a tag on that buck either, after all the grief these perfect guys gave to another, makes you chuckle. But, thanks for doing a thankless job much of the time! And congrats on a great buck. Haha.....! Figures someone would notice. BUT...we don't know that the deer isn't tagged. I generally tag both Bucks and Does on the foreleg. Many folks tag bucks on the antlers. I tag on the foreleg...because the tag must ALWAYS go with the meat resource (not the head, if separate). Also, it is generally accepted (though not the letter of the law) that an animal might be in a difficult place to recover and require a certain amount of 'being moved' before it is practical to tag it. I've recovered more than one deer from a creek (even a farm pond in one instance) or from White-brush and Cactus so thick you could barely move in it. Love to see anyone fill out and IMMEDIATELY tag a deer under those conditions. The 'spirit' of the law is to have animal properly tagged as soon as it reasonably possible to do so. Tradition (separate from the law)...is for a person to move/retrieve the animal a short distance (favorable to picture taking) and then tag and attend to moving it or field dressing. I think most GW's are aware of that. https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/licenses/tagging-instructions/tagging-deerTagging Deer:
A tag from the hunting license of the person who killed the deer must be correctly and legibly completed (including name of property and county) and immediately attached to the animal (exception is properties with issued tags such as MLDP tags).
The hunter must: use the specific type of deer (for example, buck tags must be used only on buck deer, antlerless tags on antlerless deer, etc.). have the month and date of kill clearly cut out on the tag by notching the respective month and day. Do not “ink out.” immediately complete, date and cut out the appropriate hunting license tag after a deer is harvested but before the deer is field dressed, moved or tagged. for white-tailed deer, after a deer is harvested, but before the deer is field-dressed immediately before moving carcass, complete the log, in ink, on the back of the hunting license. Asterisks in the log indicate bucks with an inside main beam spread of at least 13 inches. Failure to complete the log as required may result in a fine not to exceed $500 for each deer improperly logged.

Photo was taken where deer fell immediately after he was shot. He had not been gutted or moved from this location at the time of photo. I witnessed the gutting, tagging of buck, and helped load him into my 4WD truck. (Not an easy job for these two old coots. I’m guessing this 6-1/2 year old buck to have weighed in the range of 180 field dressed.) BTW: I notice that most pics taken and posted on this forum do not show animal to have been tagged at time of photo.
