Anybody been out there for the season? What does it look like? Is all the talk about anthrax real? Heading out tonight.

I hunted opening weekend and saw a few mature deer. Overall it was pretty slow for us. It always gets better in December.

Yes, it is real.

If it impacted your hunting area is impossible to say without someones boots on the ground.

Thread on the topic. ---> Anthrax

Well hell, I've gone 36 hrs on 2 hrs of sleep.....so I could get in the blind, and I haven't seen a single deer! This is not good.... hope we weren't effected.

You should be far enough south to where the anthrax did not make it down to you if i remember correctly. I am just north of Loma Alta and we got lucky and are fine and seeing some solid deer so far.

Lot worse than reported. Spoke to State Trooper who hunts in Crockett County and there was a 60-90% mortality rate where effected in Crockett county. Understand that this is not ValVerde but things are bad in that entire area. Keep in mind, anyone who reports Anthrax in cattle or deer, that property is quarantined and you lose your income source, so reports are few and far between.
Tripple C in Ozona is selling a medicated protein feed to reduce sickness but it is unproven from what I was told.

Just my .02 and what I heard from reliable sources.

Bigdaddy....unfortunately, your source is pretty spot on.
And the lack of info is indeed economically related

It wouldn't take much of this to do it for me!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

It sucked, but the good thing is on the way home we saw a ton of deer on the side of the road. I would say anyone west of Del Rio on 90 all the way to Langtry are safe.

Shot this cull this morning and have seen plenty of deer. Actually need to take a lot of does and some more cull bucks.
Have a really good group of 3.5 years old. We dodged a bullet with this deal.

I just got back from spending a week out there and the younger bucks are chasing for sure but the mature deer are still a bit behind. We also have a ton of acorns still on the ground so the activity at the feeders has been a little slow for now.
