Was hunting coyotes last week. This coyote popped out at the far end of the field at 260 yards. It was breezy but not overly windy. He acted as though he never heard my fox pro caller. Never even put his head up. He was trotting and I thought I led him good. I was wrong, I gut shot him with a 143 Gr ELD-X bullet from my 6.5 CM. He reared up and dropped. When he reared up you could see his intestines hanging out. The bullet darn near disemboweled him. Total devastation, never seen anything like it. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2019/11/full-66198-207774-1coyote.jpg)

Distance is not an issue, but the wind can make it interesting!

Shot one out of a deer stand with a 300 wby and 220 grain Hornady interlock round noses. Made a fast shot on the trot as he crosses a sendero for the second time and did about the exact same thing you did. My brother was watching through binoculars and after the shot we both just looked at each other like what the heck.
It's hell eatin em live

My sister did that on a doe once. Mad a bad shot, gut shot low. When my brother in law and I found the doe, she didn't have much left inside. Made for easy field dressing though.
If I choose to hunt in a coon tail hat, a pink tootoo and hip waders that is my fine...
