Very interesting responses. My thought is, would someone “normal” do such a thing?
We do not see mental illness like we do most other illnesses. We all loathe cancer and what it does to the body.
Do we think the same for what illness in the brain does? Surely this person has a disease of the brain that he has lost control of his actions? I think people who are afflicted with issues in the brain are some of the most pitiful. Not just because of their suffering, but because society doesn’t treat mental illness as it does most other illnesses.

I wonder if I had to choose between cancer and it ravaging my body, or mental illness, where my body would be fine, but my mind gone, what would I accept.

All that being stated, I would do all within my power to avoid what this lady encountered.

Ugh! didn't click the link here, but I did elsewhere, my heart goes out to the woman. The mental health system in this country is seriously broken, that man needed help, he obviously wasn't getting it.

The human body is becoming easier to fix. The human mind not so much. The human mind is so complicated, I don't think it can ever be fixed with "better living through chemistry". The trend to empathize more with these individuals and reduce the punishment for their behavior which they in their actions themselves cannot understand Is only going to have grave consequences on the rest of us. I don't know if there is an answer to dealing with these crazy individuals that won't be met with resistance from 50% of the country. I feel sorry for these individuals but they cannot be fixed. They are too far gone to fit in our society. Perhaps the individuals with so much empathy for these individuals should adopt them, bring them into their homes and give them the direction they need to become normal functioning members of society. I would take a bet that the government adoption agency promoting this process would soon have spiderwebs growing in the lobby.
