I have several different breeds of mutts in the kennel. I’ve been around long enough to know a dog is an individual about how nasty they are in the kennel. From experience I’ve learned the French Britts have always been the cleanest dogs anywhaere they’re at. I have two together in a 10X10 and they are clean as hell. My pointer pup chits in front of the kennel and isn’t afraid to lay in it. My lab is by far the nastiest and makes a track through her chit every day. The Shorthairs are clean too.. What is y’alls experience?

My Britt is the cleanest dog one I’ve had. Got her at 6 weeks, house broke the first weekend. Won’t go in the kennel, only a handful of accidents in 13 years. The 4 yo pointer was messy til she turned one. The pointer pup is getting better, but isn’t crate broke yet. I’ve also had a nasty lab and shorthair.

My Cockers are very clean. My English Pointers were for the most part. The food I feed has always helped too.

My labs have always been clean but the pros with a lot of dogs always seem to have one or two that are disgusting. I'm general I believe most dogs want to keep their kennel clean.

I think its more about how they are kenneled than the breed. Never had much of a problem with any as long as they were let out twice a day. Never had any problem in their dog boxes except a sick one.

I've never noticed any specific breed being worse than the other. like people, they are all different. I have noticed that females seem to be the most likely to poop wherever and run through it.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

A buddy of mine gave me a 50# sack of frozen hog fat the other day. I’ve been giving each dog a hand sized chunk with their dinner. I figured it might add a new aroma to the kennel but I have t noticed a difference. A little extra meat on their bones will be good with season approaching.

I think the placement of your kennel drain is important. I had just read a article by David Duffy before I built my house with the new kennel. Most pros put the drain at the back of the kennel and feed close to the gate. Duffy wrote that you should put your drain 4 feet from the gate and feed at the back. That's the way I set up my kennel. None of my dogs never dumped toward the back. I seldom washed any more than the 4 feet in the front. I generally picked up the droppings and threw them in the pond. The catfish ate the droppings but I didn't eat the catfish.

I’d rather have mine do their business in the back. I feed in the front, and have the barrels toward the front. I can wash out toward the back into a trough the runs along the rear outside of the kennel. If they mess in the front, then they jump on and around the gate. That’s what I try to avoid.

I had this nasty pointer one time that everyday would his two front feet in his feed pan and slide it around and “paint the kennel floor” if you can imagine. Everyday!
