Things seemed kind of slow opening day around me; very few shots fired which is a nice change from the typical 4th of July sounding opening. Multiple nice nocturnal bucks on camera but no overt signs of the rut ongoing. All deer are in phonomenal condition, what are the rest of the Young County crew experiencing?

Spike is the only deer I saw in the morning and shot a pig yesterday evening no deer. Also the lack of shots was strange. This is in the Jean area. Are you still down by Elliasville? I need to call the guy who bought our ranch and see what he did.

If it got any better we wouldn't know what to do.

Young & dumb bucks harassing doe, mature / big guys still hanging out in oaks enjoying the acorns & checking the corn feeders from dense cover 3 - 4 times per day.
Saw about 30 deer yesterday daylight hours including seeing the 9 point I might kill this year twice.

This mornin young bucks harassing doe again till around 7:45 am, now have 3 doe 15' -30' out the south window eating acorns & 5 doe 5 fawns & 3 smaller bucks eating acorns out the bedroom window from 20' - 40, north window a doe with twins & 2 small bucks wondering around eating acorns from 10' to 20'.

The 9 point & 2 legal 8 points have been drifting by concealed in the oaks a couple times keeping an eye on whats going on.
That's just on one small place, this morning.

Fixin to start the tractor, hookup a gooseneck load some hay & go put it out. I'm sure I'll see several more.

There are no deer in Young county, if there were any they'd all be nocturnal.

On edit; watch your step I've had to kill 1 rattler & relocate 2 others since Friday just doing normal stuff, not out bushwacking.

I’m seeing plenty of movement. Deer are in good shape, for now. If we don’t get any measurable rain soon, we’ll be in trouble. We have several of targets on camera and new ones showing up everytime we check the cameras. Should be a good season.

A few small deer moving. Was really surprised to see how dry it is where we are near Eliasville, compared to how it was 6 weeks ago. Need some rain bad.

Active opening weekend! Numerous does, numerous healthy and nice looking young bucks with great potential! A few legal bucks who need more time to grow. Maybe two shooters but nothing to pull the trigger on this early. Saw a few bucks run at does but no serious chasing yet. We also saw several broken tines and 2 bucks with completely broken off antlers so there must be a monster in the area. We believe rut will be fairly soon and looking forward that. Pleased with all the movement and deer activity for opening weekend. Ready to see what happens and shows up next weekend. Good luck to everyone!

Headed out this weekend might be a little muddy.

Where do yall go for processing around young co? We have gone to clear fork for the past years and ready to find something new. It has gotten too expensive, staff always seems ticked off and the sausage is just awful.

We switched from Clear Fork to Rays in Breckenridge, very pleased and their sausage is way better than CF was.

Ray's is too high. Clear fork is bad. We use Triple H in Archer City, much better and you get your deer back.

Are you sure you're in Young County? We had bucks moving ALL day long in northern Young County. Cameras are loaded with pics of bucks chasing does since the end of October. I passed on a nice 10 right at first light while waiting on an old heavy 8. The 10 was nose straight out and into the wind with something on his mind. The 8 showed up trailing 3 does and when he stopped in the open I took him. Weighed on the hoof he was just under 195 pounds and covered in white fat all over. Lots of mid day movement which tells me that the rut was/ is on.

Had some good action out of Eliasville all last weekend, nothing worth taking a shot at though. Found out we now have 1 possibly 2 Fallow doe on our property, 1 for sure hung out near my buddies blind all weekend. Starting to wonder if it's someones pet, he was talking to it from his blind and it just sat there and stared at him for a while...maybe 15 feet away. It got pretty close to me (at least 10ft) when I was filling my road feeder to corn the roads in my area.

We have taken 3 nice bucks so far on our lease this rifle season. Best season we have had in a long while. Lot on camera too. I've got a nice wide and tall 10 pt coming in behind a couple does, hope to get him this weekend. We are just outside of Graham.

I was in Haskell County this past Sunday/Monday for a quick trip and have yet to see any chasing. Not even opening weekend. Maybe I missed it out there but typically its right around Thanksgiving.

I was out Sunday PM through AM yesterday. Little warm for my tastes. Saw one 8 come to a feeder following a 3 year old doe with two yearlings and she had no interest. Hadn't kicked em off yet and left the scene. He ate for about 15 minutes. Last week saw an old dark 6 point cull follow two does into cover, about 7-10 minutes behind them. He seemed ready, not sure they were.

Pretty disappointed in myself this season got but fever and took down a young 8pt. He was chasing a doe I got a good look at his antlers as soon as he stepped out I took a shot. He was a decent buck but like I said he definitely had a year or two to go. My buddy is out in loving bucks have been chasing all week he says, and another buddy on a lease behind my place has them chasing.

Was out Friday morning until Sunday morning near Eliasville, only saw a really fat spike(was actually impressed) and a little 4 pt and no doe. Was able to take 3 pigs, they just kept showing up...was getting worried i'd run out of ammo if they kept showing up every sit. I'm guessing between the acorns and possibly the tending part of the rut is why our activity was so slow.

What are the Young county hunters seeing out there lately? Deer hitting feeders again? Secondary rut kicking in soon?

I Sat at a feeder between Newcastle and Throckmorton this morning that hasn’t been hunted all season and saw zero. The corn wasn’t piling up but nothing showed up to eat this morning. This is always a good spot for me, I just haven’t had time to get over there to hunt this season.
