Was excited to take this old Alberta buck tending several does in a windswept basin. He was just shy of 30” and was with a 3x3 that we estimate was 32”. A chilly day with temps hovering around 0 degrees Fahrenheit and a 30mph wind. Saw some younger bucks that would probably score better but left them for next year’s hunters. All in all a great hunt for what will likely be my only mule deer.

Man I love those animals. Congrats on an awesome deer. But why your only? I hunted Texas mulies 3 years ago and have been counting the days until my next desert mule deer hunt ever since. 51 days to go.

I hunted Texas mulies 3 years ago and have been counting the days until my next desert mule deer hunt ever since. 51 days to go. Maybe someday when I retire, but right now several other hunts are ahead of ever hunting them again. I average one “adventure hunt” every 2 years or so. This guy was my 10th NA big game species. The only species I hunt every year is whitetails. I have a feeling that when I retire whitetails and elk are going to take up most of my time.

Well done, old man. If you’re only going to take one, that’s a mighty fine representative.

Well done. Seeing some better ones is icing on the cake.
