Chaparral is open for quail tomorrow and Wednesday. I’m gonna head down in the morning and run the dogs. Should be cold enough to run the rattlebugs in their hole.

Yes please. Reports are slow to come this year.

Make sure you have a good pair of walking boots.

Got there at 11:30, temp was 37°, overcast, and a 10-15 mph North wind. Talked to a guy that was leaving, he had only found one covey. I drove around about as much as I walked, looking for some decent areas to walk. TPWD gal told me at check in that there was a youth deer hunt next weekend and there would be corn on the ground at the deer blinds. Bumped 2 copies at 2 of these locations. Had 1 covey actually pointed, pointer held well, no birds were harmed after the flush. Sun peeked out around 3:30, wind layed to about 10 mph. Was 42° when I left at 5:00. Didn't hear any shots besides my 2 misses all afternoon. This makes my 4th trip to Chapparal WMA in about a dozen years, never moved more than 1 covey on previous trips. So I would call this a successful outing. I even ran the 13 yo Britt 4 15 minute runs. Sure beat sitting at home. Will hit the paid lease Friday In Throckmorton county, hoping to find a few more birds.

Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Good luck in Throckmorton
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.
