I have heard in the past that big bucks move in bad weather. Last Thursday we had more bucks on the nastiest day of the week than any other day. I am no biologist, but could they be hitting the food plots when the does have there heads tucked in bedding areas and there is less distraction?

I saw the biggest buck I have seen on my place out Saturday even in calm sunny weather about 68 degrees. He was chasing a doe. My cameras over food plots showed virtually no deer all week and that continues. I think to make generalizations is tough and very location dependent. My place and surrounding land has good habitat and forage, lots of mast all around. We typically see deer hammer food plots late season, not now.

No. Do you have a habit of avoiding that "distraction"? They do it to build up energy. Can you imagine how many calories you would burn standing out in the cold shivering?

I suppose you'd need to define 'bad weather'. Windy, rainy, exceptionally cold days, the deer in my area (Deep East Texas) will seek as much shelter as they can find. They tend to 'ride out' bad weather for a couple of days. After that...they are pretty much forced to move.

This time of year...our bucks are opportunity feeders (browsing on the go) and are much more interested in finding receptive Does than eating. They typically lose a lot of weight between now and late December. Starting late December into January...then yes, they are all over my food plots, feeders (at night), hand broadcast corn, any late greenery they can find (green briar, honeysuckle, american beauty berry, etc) whatever your local plant life can provide. But universally they will be trying to 'recover' from the rut.

Depends on the browse.....if there is ample food in their cover, they will stay hunkered down until the weather breaks.....If they are trailing a receptive doe and she wants to move in that weather they will move with her.....
